Oatlands from My Point of View
Welcome back to Term 2, everyone! We hope you’ve had a relaxing break and are feeling refreshed and ready for an exciting new term. It’s been wonderful to see all our students back at school, eager to learn and grow. This term, we’re looking forward to a wide range of engaging activities, fun events, and plenty of opportunities to shine. Here are a couple of highlights from last term and the first two weeks of this term.
Cross Country & Active April
Late last term our Grade 3 – 6 students participated in our Cross-Country House Trials. All students participated with a positive attitude, earning points for their house. Students who finished in the top 10 qualified for the Edwin Flack District Cross Country event, which will be held this term. Good luck to those students. For the month of April, the Oatlands community participated in Active April. It was great to see so many students and their families getting active and enjoying a walk or run around the track each morning. Thank you to our PE team, Sarah James, Martine Carmichael and Kara Ellis for organising the events and supporting our students.
ANZAC Day Ceremony
This Wednesday we held our traditional ANZAC Day ceremony in the Stuart Daly Gym. Our student leaders, Aira, Zayan, Kiyara, Isabel, Levi and Marlan shouldered much of the responsibility for the running of the ceremony. They spent many hours practicing their readings and rehearsing the ceremony. We are extremely proud of them. Congratulations and thank you to the Oatlands Choir for the time and effort they dedicated to practicing. It paid off with an outstanding performance. Thank you to the entire Oatlands community for supporting the ANZAC Appeal, by buying badges and wrist bands.
Mother's Day
Mother’s Day is just around the corner and at school we held our annual Mother’s Day stall. Our PFA, including additional volunteers, do a wonderful job sourcing all the gifts and setting up and running the stall. Thank you to Sarah Higgins, our PFA president, for her outstanding organisation. In addition to this, we hosted our first Mother’s Day event on Friday. Like our Father’s Day event, mothers and significant female role models enjoyed listening to Jo Stanley, our guest speaker, then spent some time with their children in the classroom, followed by a morning tea. This was a huge success and something our school community thoroughly enjoyed.
