Physical Education and Sport
Primary School 3xCup
In Term Two our school entered two teams into a 3x3 basketball competition with Basketball Victoria. 3x3 basketball is played on a half court, with only four players in each team, goals are worth one point or two points from behind the arc and games last only 12 minutes or first to score 21 points. It is described as fast paced, physical and fun.
Our teams were selected students in Year Six: Rye, Elle, Willow and Milly made up the girls team, and Archie, Neel, Chase and Atilla K made up the boys team.
The boys had a fantastic day trying out this new style of basketball and showed plenty of heart and determination. The girls were able to make it into the grand final and in doing so, secured themselves a spot in the State 3xCup.
At the State Primary School 3xCup, the girls came up against some incredibly tough opponents and won two of their five pool games. We are so incredibly proud of all these students for being risk takers and trying something new, doing their best and showing fantastic sportsmanship during both events.
A big thank you to all the parents who assisted in travel to and from the events.
In recent years 3x3 basketball has increased in popularity and debuted as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In May, the Australian women’s 3x3 team, the Gangurrus, qualified for the Paris Olympic Games, becoming the first to represent Australia at this level. Watch for them playing this exciting game in August!
Divisional Cross Country Event
On May 29th, Mia 5EW, Nathan 6MP and Jay 6MP represented Essendon North Primary School at the Moonee Ponds Divisional Event located at Brimbank Park.
These students displayed plenty of energy, enthusiasm and school spirit racing across 3000 metre races, with the chance to win and represent Essendon North Primary School at the Western Metro Regional Cross Country Event.
An amazing effort by each of these students, with Nathan coming 2nd in his division on the day. A huge congratulations to you all, and we wish Nathan all the best for his upcoming race in the Moonee Valley Regional Sport event in June.
Year Six Interschool Sports
Throughout Term Two our Year Six students competed in a series of sports matches against schools in our district. Students involved were undertaking training during and before school to prepare for the season. It was terrific to see so many students supporting each other within and across teams and giving it their all.
Congratulations to all students who participated in our Interschool sports. A big thank you to the teachers for coaching and supporting our students throughout the season.
