ENERGY SAVING
How often do you monitor your own energy use?
Do you regularly switch off to save energy?
We have so many appliances and devices running throughout our busy day. Heating and cooling appliances, lights, ceiling fans, T.V., Kitchen and Laundry appliances, computers, sound systems and phones.
Pathways Sustainability students identified energy sources in classrooms, specialist and administration areas using a map of Naranga School. They worked together to identify staff and student responsibilities for switching off appliances and devices in classrooms at the end of the day. The group distributed Energy posters to classes to display and use as a daily reminder for saving energy. Staff can display this poster in specialist areas to remind classes to switch off before they leave these areas.
Students considered the importance of switching off during school holiday periods and the end of the year to save energy. They will find out from Leadership if the new building that has an automatic timer system can be switched off when not in use. They suggested extra energy savings in the Home Economics room by turning off one fridge lightly filled and transferring food items across to another fridge.
If we all take responsibility for energy use at school and home, we will make positive choices and help the planet.
