Year 3/4 Update

Embracing the "Learning Pit"

This term in Year 3/4, we have been focusing on "getting comfortable with being uncomfortable"  by embracing what we call the Learning Pit. This simply means we are encouraging students to bravely tackle tasks that feel challenging, understanding that some of the deepest learning happens when things get a little difficult.

When your child "jumps" into the Learning Pit, they are not expected to have all the answers right away. Instead, students are guided to acknowledge their emotions, utilise strategies, and collaborate with teachers and peers to overcome challenges and "climb out" of the pit. This resilient approach to learning will continue to be a focus throughout the year.

A Glimpse into Our Learning Adventures

Here's a snapshot of what our Year 3/4 students have been exploring across different subjects:

  • Mathematics: We recently finished a unit on Two-Dimensional Shapes, where students focused on identifying and classifying shapes based on attributes like parallel lines and symmetry. Now, we've just embarked on an exciting multiplication unit, where students are discovering various ways to multiply using arrays and repeated addition, and practicing their multiplication facts through engaging games and activities.

  • Religion: After reflecting on the significance of Easter, our focus has now shifted to Pentecost, understanding its meaning and importance within the Christian faith.

  • History: The students are thoroughly enjoying their research into Celebrations and Commemorations around the World. They've been discovering fascinating traditions and events, broadening their global perspectives.

  • English: Creativity was on full display as students recently completed an exciting writing project where they created speeches from the perspective of someone present at "The Last Stand" during our Ned Kelly studies. Their speeches truly impressed, showcasing a strong command of persuasive language and various rhetorical devices to effectively draw in and influence their listeners.

  • Sport: It's been great to get back onto the oval! We have been practicing various sports skills, and playing fun games like French Cricket. It has been wonderful to get some fresh air and practice teamwork.

  • Art: Our budding artists continue to be inspired by Monet's masterful techniques and styles. They're creating their own beautiful artworks, experimenting with light, colour, and impressionistic brushstrokes.
