Sport Wrap Up Term 1!
Brentwood students have again taken full advantage of the opportunities to be involved in sport during term 1. It has been pleasing to see students attend selection trials and training sessions to make it into a school team. Many students have also applied to be a student leader, within sport, as a student coach.
Getting involved in sport has many benefits for a student. Students can learn new skills, make new friends, develop rapport with staff members outside the classroom, improve their level of physical activity, builds confidence, teamwork, leadership, social skills, and improves their overall level of health.
Congratulations to all our teams that have progressed through to the EMR competitions later this year! This is a fantastic achievement, and we are proud to have teams qualify across a wide range of sports, showcasing the diverse talents and abilities of our students.
Our whole school carnivals, swimming and athletics, had students bursting with energy to compete and earn points for their Houses. Jacaranda won both the House Swimming sports and the House Athletics sports. Well done!
Our Swimmers competed at Monash Division and won the Junior and Intermediate shields, and our Brentwood swimmers are the current Monash Division Champions!
EMR Swimming
Congratulations to all our swimmers who competed at the EMR Championships this week! Everyone performed exceptionally well, with many achieving personal best times. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces proudly wearing their well-earned medals.
A special mention to Annis Wu and Titus Wu, who have qualified for the SSV State Swimming Championships on Thursday, April 23 at MSAC. Annis will compete in the Open 100m Breaststroke and the 14 Years 50m Breaststroke events, while Titus will swim in the 12–15 Years 200m Freestyle.
We are also thrilled to have a 4 x 50m Freestyle relay team qualify for the state finals. Congratulations to Joshua Yechan Lee, Titus Wu, Oscar Kim, and Siwoo Kim on this fantastic achievement!
What’s on in term 2?
Student sign up took place over the past few weeks for the sports on offer in term 2: AFL, Soccer, Netball & Badminton for students in year 7 to 12, and Hockey and Basketball for our seniors. If you forgot to sign up to express your interest in trying out for a team, please see Miss Nash early next term.
Cross Country is also happening in term 2. If you are a keen runner, the holidays are a great time to start/continue training towards making the team! Students who express interest in trialling will be added to a compass event, with consent closing on Thursday April 23. More information about selection trials will be available early next term - keep your eyes on the daily student bulletin and Sport Channels on Teams. All girls and the boys in 13, 14 & 15 age groups will be running the 3km event. Boys in the 16 and 17-20 age groups run 5km.
Sport Uniform
We have had a large number of sports teams out this term and 99% of the students competing looked like a Brentwood athlete. We represent Brentwood SC; not Nike, not Adidas, and not the local sporting club. As it will get colder next term, please ensure your child is wearing the navy track pants, school rugby jumper, and school jacket. Leggings are not part of our sport uniform.
Thank you to the parents who support and enforce our sport uniform. I am proud of Brentwood and our uniform and I hope the students are too.
Parents, please label all uniform items – it can’t be returned to your child if there is no name on it!
Stay fit & healthy over the break and I can’t wait to see what we achieve with sport in term 2.

Year 8 Boys Tennis Team
Despite challenging wet conditions, our Year 8 Boys Tennis teams showed fantastic determination and sportsmanship at the Monash Tennis Centre on Thursday 26th March.
The A Team delivered an outstanding performance, remaining undefeated for the entire day and dropping just one game in their match against South Oakleigh. This impressive result sees Ishaan, Aarav, Andrew and Richard progress through to the Eastern Metropolitan Region next round. Their success was not only a reflection of their match-day performance, but also their consistent commitment to attending every training session and continually working to improve their match play.
The B Team competed strongly in the A Division draw, taking on tough opposition. While they were unable to secure a match win, they showed great resilience by taking plenty of games off their opponents. A big congratulations to Maddox, Lucas, Jacob and Abdul for their positive attitude, tireless effort and teamwork throughout the day.
A huge thank you also goes to our student coaches Xander and Lucas, whose enthusiasm and encouragement helped keep team spirits high. Their support, along with their efforts in umpiring each match, played an important role in making the day a success.
Well done to all players for representing the school with pride, perseverance and teamwork. We wish the A Team the very best as they move on to the next stage of competition

Year 8 Girls Tennis Team
Despite very wet and challenging conditions, our Year 8 Girls Tennis team demonstrated outstanding determination and team spirit at the Monash Tennis Centre on Thursday 26th March.
The girls showed fantastic support for one another throughout the day, constantly encouraging their teammates and maintaining a positive mindset in every match. Their resilience was especially evident during a hard-fought doubles contest, where they dug deep, played with great composure, and ultimately secured an important win to come out on top. Students will play in Term Four at Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR).
Across all matches, the team displayed excellent effort, giving 110% and never letting the difficult weather dampen their enthusiasm. Their persistence, sportsmanship, and willingness to keep fighting for every point were key factors in their successful day.
Congratulations to the team on a wonderful performance and for representing the school with such positivity, teamwork, and determination. Well done to Adhya, Chloe, Audrey, Yashvi, Emma and Gaia and their great coaches Charlene and Saumya.
