PHSACU Update

As Term 2 draws to a close, it has been another busy and productive period for our cadet unit. We would like to share some of the highlights from this term, as well as provide an update on upcoming activities and events.

King’s Birthday

This month, four of our Senior Rank were privileged to attend the King’s Birthday celebration at Government House, Sydney. SUO James and CUO’s Hayden, Remy, and Sophie attended rehearsals at Holsworthy Barracks, practicing their drill skills in preparation for the parade. On Saturday 6th June, they arrived at Government House along with the Australian Navy, Airforce and Army Cadets from around NSW, in their Ceremonial Service Dress or ‘Polys’. The cadets formed a Royal Guard on the Government House Lawn and were reviewed by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley, AC KC, Governor of New South Wales. Our cadets displayed professionalism at all times and represented our unit superbly. Congratulations James, Hayden, Remy, and Sophie. PHSACU is very proud of you. Thank you also to our dedicated staff, 2LT Thomas and 2LT Frazer who gave up their Saturday to escort our students and provide such an exciting opportunity for them.

Defence of Sydney

On 15 June, sixteen of our cadet Corporals and Lance Corporals attended the Defence of Sydney Commemorative Service at the Memorial Walk, Manly. This event marks the 31st of May in 1942 when the Second World War came to Sydney. On this date, an attack on Sydney Harbour was initiated by three Japanese midget-submarines, which resulted in the torpedoing of the HMAS Kuttabul and death of 21 sailors on board. In memory of the lives lost, our RSM Carys commanded our cadets to form a Guard of Honour, to be reviewed by special guest, Rear Admiral Chris Smith, AM, CSM, RAN Commander Australian Fleet. The Guard stood proudly as PHACU representatives and displayed excellence throughout the service. Thank you to all those who took their time to serve in recognition of this significant event in our city’s history.
