Year 10 update

The Year 10s have made their subject selections for 2025, whilst getting involved in plenty of extra-curricular activities and working hard at their current electives.
Congratulations to the Year 10 students who won the best overall submission at the Swinburne University Innovation Challenge: Leo M, Jinglin Y, James N, and Arako A! The students (pictured in the header image above) came up with a novel approach to synthesise biological and mechanical components to develop sustainable transport, meeting the UN sustainable development goal to achieve sustainable cities and communities.
Congratulations also to Rohan M-R on completing his first ever ultramarathon. Rohan finished in the top three competitors for the event, held along part of the Larapinta trail (see photo below) over the course of four days! Rohan was one of the youngest competitors and led the pack on 2/4 days - an incredible effort!
As we approach the end of Term 3, Year 10 students have worked towards running a fundraiser, and completing a day of Community Service. They have been actively engaged in a variety of activities aimed at enhancing their connection with the wider community around them.
Our Year 10 students have demonstrated a fantastic commitment to serving their community this term. Throughout this term they have spent time preparing for their Community Service Day, taking place in the final week of term. Within their Programs classes, students have brainstormed with their teachers ways that they can contribute positively in their community and decided on where they would like to complete their volunteering based on what they are passionate about.
In the second last week of term, students ran a fundraising event at lunch time. Leading up to this fundraiser, students were tasked with researching different non-for-profit organizations and picking one as a class that they would like to raise funds for. They had sessions in class to organise as a group what they would do to raise funds and delegate tasks for their classmates to do before and on the day. The moment you’ve been waiting for… students raised an incredible $1,083 to donate to their chosen organisations, including Cure Cancer Australia, RSPCA and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
As we conclude Term 3, it has been amazing to see the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by our Year 10 students. Their active participation and growth mindsets showcase their commitment to their community at school and their wider community. Without the staff at school, none of this would have been possible, so we express our appreciation to all the staff, external presenters and all those who have contributed to the success of the Year 10 Programs.
