Year 9 update

by Mr Tim Dobson, Year 9 Coordinator

The Year 9s have been busy in Term 3 with sport, music, and the usual academic activities the school offers as well as dozens of external pursuits.

In classrooms, this semester’s Geography classes are preparing for their Term 4 camp and city inquiry activity.

We’ve had more successes outside of the classroom too. The Year 9s have been excelling in debating, heading off to Northcote High for a recent round.

Matthew B is once again off to represent Indonesia in international soccer, while closer to home Lachie P has come in fifth in Victoria in the 1500m freestyle. We absolutely love seeing our Year 9 legends achieving their best in and out of school and look forward to seeing what Term 4 holds for them as we send half the cohort off to camp and a few lucky students off to the School for Student Leadership.

Cheesecake Designs!

by Ms Kylie Watson

In this task the Year 9 food students had to design and create a concept with which they could decorate their cheesecakes, using various elements that are based on taste, texture and flavours, as well as including sculptural elements.

During our class discussions prior to creating, they learnt how to correctly melt chocolate, understand the key terms of food design and how to apply it.

Using fresh strawberries, we created a brightly coloured fresh sauce to use when plating and serving their cheesecakes. The final stage was bringing all the elements together and presenting their final dynamic and very colourful designs.

Well done everyone!
