Principal's Message

Laura Petrie

Dear Parents/Carers,

As Term 2 draws to a close on Friday 26 June, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the students, families, and staff of the School of the Good Shepherd for the warm welcome and support I have received throughout the term.  It has been a wonderful beginning to my time at the school, and I have greatly enjoyed getting to know our students, connecting with families, and working alongside such dedicated and committed staff.

The strong sense of community, partnership, and care that exists within the School of the Good Shepherd has been evident from my first day, and I am grateful for the kindness and encouragement that has been extended to me.  As we approach the holiday break, I thank everyone for their ongoing support and contribution to the life of our school. I wish all families a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday period and look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 3, refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning and growth.

Roadworks: South Circular Road

The roadworks on South Circular Road are now well underway. The contractors are making every effort to minimise disruption to the school; however, they have advised that there is likely to be some impact on the school community at some point next week when concrete is poured to reinstate the driveway.  At this stage, the contractors are unable to confirm which day the works will take place. I will provide an update and communicate the details to you as soon as this information becomes available.  Thank you for your understanding, patience, and ongoing support while these works are completed.

School Advisory Council Expression of Interest

There is currently one position available for a parent or carer who would like to join our School Advisory Council. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute ideas, support school improvement initiatives, and help strengthen partnerships between the school and our community. If you are passionate about student success and would like to have a voice in shaping the future of our school, we encourage you to submit an expression of interest. Please email principal@sogsgpark.catholic.edu.au if you are interested in joining the School Advisory Council by Friday June 26.

School Newsletter publication

Please note that from next term, the school newsletter will be distributed fortnightly on Thursday afternoons instead of Fridays. As discussed at the recent School Advisory Council meeting, this change will support more efficient school operations and provide families with greater opportunity to read and engage with the newsletter, as Friday afternoons are often a particularly busy time for many parents and carers.

Please also note that, commencing next term, our school newsletters will include more detailed information for families about learning and teaching across key curriculum areas. This will encompass English, Mathematics, Learning Diversity, Wellbeing, and our specialist subjects, including Italian (LOTE), Physical Education, STEM, and Visual Arts.

Staffing

I would like to inform the school community of several staffing changes that will take effect from Term 3:

  • Elizabeth Sarpa has decided to return to classroom teaching and has accepted a position at St Thomas More School, Hadfield.

  • Elizabeth Hopper has accepted a position at St Patrick's Primary School Kilmore, which is closer to her home.

  • Daniel Cook has chosen to pursue further career opportunities in tertiary education. Katherine Pitt has accepted the position of STEM teacher at SoGS for Semester 2.

  • Caroline Barresi has joined our staff and will be teaching Year 2A while Melissa Georgakopoulos is on maternity leave.

I would like to thank these staff members for their valued contributions to the School of the Good Shepherd community and wish them every success and happiness in their future endeavours.

End of the School Term

Please note that the school term will conclude on Friday June 26, at 1:30pm.  I wish all of the children a restful and enjoyable holiday break and we look forward to seeing all of the children return to school on Monday July 13.

Kind regards,

Laura Petrie
