News of the Week

Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to this week's newsletter. We will be talking about a special person who came to visit the Year 5/6s, the Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass and of course the Student Led conferences.
Mark Dreyfus Visit
On Tuesday, Mark Dreyfus visited the Year 5/6 area and explained how Parliament works in Australia. Mark Dreyfus is the Federal member of Parliament for our local area and has been in Parliament since 2007. He taught us about the mace, which is a special symbol of Parliament's authority. We learned that the mace must be in the room before Parliament can officially begin its work. He also explained how members of Parliament vote on laws and make important decisions. It was interesting to learn more about how the Australian Parliament works and how decisions are made for our amazing country.
What was something interesting you learnt?
Flynn- I learnt that we need 76 exact votes to win a decision/argument.
Grace- I learnt how our Parliament casts a vote.
Feast of the Sacred Heart
This Friday, we will be celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart with a special Mass. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we would love to see you there. It will be a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community and celebrate this special occasion. We hope you can join us and enjoy the celebration with us. Mass will be in the Hall @ 11.30pm.
Student Led Conferences
Next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be having Student-Led Conferences. This is a chance for students to share the learning they have been proud of this semester with their families.
Each conference will go for 15 minutes. Students will spend the first 5 minutes showing and talking about their work. Then, for the remaining 10 minutes, parents and teachers will meet together while students wait outside the room.
Please remember that on Tuesday only, students will need to be picked up from school early at 1:30 pm for their conference.
St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal
Thank you to everyone who donated to the St Vincent Winter Appeal. We are really proud of our school community and how everyone comes together for a good cause!
St Brigid's Parents Party!
Our amazing Fundraising Team has been very busy organising our social night on Friday June 19th. We have a plethora of prizes for our silent auction, spinning wheel and raffles but I do believe that the 2 x $500 off your school fees is the hot property for the night!
This week has been a fun and busy time for all year levels. In Year 5/6, we were lucky to have Mark Dreyfus visit us and teach us about Parliament. We will also be celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart with a special Mass, which is an important event for our school community. It has been a great week filled with lots of learning and exciting experiences.

Parish News
Our parish community is invited to join in prayer for Harrison Kolodziej, his family, and all those affected by the tragic accident that occurred on 23rd May. A special Mass will be offered for this intention on Sunday, 21 June at 9:30am at St Louis Church, Aspendale. Following Mass, a simple morning tea will be provided by the St Louis School community. Please continue to keep Harrison, Anna, and their family in your prayers during this difficult time.
“Anna Kolodziej is a much loved member of the St Louis school community and has been at the school for many years. On the 23rd of May, her family was devastated with the life changing injury suffered by her 17 year old son Harrison. A Go Fund Me page has been set up to support Harrison as he faces ongoing specialist care. The community is supporting the Kolodziej family in any way we can. On the 21st of June, Father Michael has invited their family and friends for a special Mass at 9.30am at St Louis and a morning tea to follow.” – Eva Traynor from St Louis School
For those who are unable to attend the Mass on 21st June in person, we will be livestreaming the Mass.
