Middle School News

Upper Primary (Years 5-6)
The last fortnight was a busy one in the upper primary school, with two classes visiting Jackson School Farm and the other two classes eagerly awaiting their turn. Grade 5/6A and 5/6B shared their experiences with great enthusiasm, speaking about how much fun they had during the visit. They were also able to put into practice what they have learnt about staying safe, demonstrating responsible behaviour throughout their time at the farm.
There has been plenty of activity across the cohort in all key learning areas. We have also been fortunate to enjoy some lovely autumn weather, which has brought renewed enthusiasm to our regular weekly fitness sessions.
Lower Secondary (Years 7-8)
The 7/8 cohort have recently commenced their Travel Training program for the year. As part of the program, students head out into the community to explore different forms of transport while building important community access and independence skills. During these outings, students are supported in tasks such as purchasing items, safely crossing roads, and practising appropriate behaviour in public settings.
Over the past three weeks, we have been taking students on local community walks where they have enjoyed visiting the local milk bar to buy snacks and drinks, as well as spending time at a nearby park. These experiences have provided valuable opportunities for students to develop confidence, communication, and social skills in real-world settings. Our local walks have also linked with our Inquiry topic, Rules and Laws. Students have been learning about our local council area.
It has been wonderful to see students making connections between their classroom learning and their experiences in the community. The students have thoroughly enjoyed getting out and exploring the local area and are already very excited about future Travel Training excursions involving buses and trains later in the year.
These upcoming experiences will continue to support students in developing independence and confidence when accessing the community.
Swimming Program
This week, the 7/8 cohort have been participating in their intensive swimming program. Students have loved getting into the pool while learning important water safety and swimming skills. Throughout the program, they have been practising safe behaviours around water, building confidence in the pool, and developing their swimming techniques with the support of instructors and staff. It has been fantastic to see students having fun while staying active and learning necessary water safety skills.
