Classroom Gallery

What has been happening in the Year 1-2 classroom?

Year 1/2 has been very busy this term.

In English we have been learning about narrative writing, speaking clearly and taking it in turns to listen, and chunking our sounds together to decode (or read) new words.  Our expression and fluency are also improving.

During Maths this term we have been learning about ‘2D shapes’ and ‘whole number.’ We are getting better at counting forwards and backwards.  Year 2 has been looking at numbers that have 3 and 4 digits.  Did you know that we learn about the ‘value of numbers in their place?’- That’s called place value.  When you write a number, each column has a value:

Hundreds Tens Units

     3   6   7

so the number 367 has 3 hundreds, 6 tens and 7 units!

In PDHPE the class has been learning about throwing and catching.  We have some superstar sportspeople in our class who have a ‘mean’ overarm throw!

In Religion, we have been learning about Lent, which is the period leading up to Easter.  There are some interesting scripture readings we have been discussing. We have also been discussing ways we can help others who are not as fortunate as ourselves.

In Creative Arts, we have been busily preparing for the show.  We hope you all get a chance to visit the Walcha Show this weekend.

Here are some of our Walcha Show Writing samples:

Have you ever been to the Walcha Show? The Walcha Show has candy floss. It has every food you would want. But it is not all about food- it’s really about spending time with everyone's family. The Walcha Show is beautiful at night (this is the end of this chapter so we are starting a new chapter)

……….I dozed off but then a loud sound came and I woke up. It was the fireworks and the loud blades that cut the sheep wool.  I rushed quickly to the ferris wheel to see how beautiful it all was.

Have you ever seen The Walcha Show? The Walcha Show  has a smash up derby and a huge ferris wheel too.  Are you going this year?  There is also a competition of the flowers and drawings.   I love the scary house the best.  I  am doing the barrel racing.  When  I go on the ferris wheel, I jump on the seats and I swing the little-bitty carriage.   Do you think you will like the show?

Oscar Young

Have you been to a fun place before?

No?

So go to the Walcha Show!  It is extreme!

And it’s good at the end of the night.  You have to see the fireworks.

Mackenzie Larkings.

Have you ever been to the Walcha Show? I wouldn't be surprised if you had because I’d say that it is the most popular show ever.  Don’t you think it is?  It is the best show in the history of shows!

My three favourite things are the trampoline, the ferris wheel and the fireworks. What are your favourite things? I would highly recommend The Walcha Show.

Sadly the fireworks are only on the second day of the action-packed Walcha Show. Isn’t that a bummer! I really want it to be on the first day.

The Walcha Show is good for the town because people come to stay for it.  Isn’t that exciting? I’m also waiting for the Walcha Show because my cousins might be coming.

On the other side, my Dad does NOT like the spinning teacups! I make him go on them anyway because I JUST DON’T CARE, OK? Oh sorry, I didn’t mean to yell!

So as you can see…….  pleeeeeease come to the Walcha Show because you will have the very best time - I promise! I’ll even ride the ferris wheel with you! Now I assure you, that you will have fun.

……… Oh, and the clowns!  You’ve got to try the clowns!
