Diocesan Swimming Carnival Wrapup

Last Friday, fourteen students from St Patrick's Primary competed at the Diocesan Swimming Trials held at Gunnedah in stifling conditions.

After all of the formalities were finished, Grace S and Jessica competed in the first race for the primary students on the day, the Open Girls 100m. Grace came 6th and Jessica placed 7th in the final.

Then all of our team members participated in their 50m Freestyle events. Harry F came 8th overall in the 8 Years Boys 50m, while Airlee T achieved the same placing in her 50m race. Will came 4th in his heat, while Josie came 10th, Florence 26th and Benji place 18th in their freestyle events. Jessica came first in this heat and 7th overall, while Grace S came second and Grace F, third. Grace S, Grace F and Jessica competed in the 11yrs Girls 50m Freestyle. All of the girls swam exceptionally well, especially Jessica who came 2nd overall. Tom came 15th, while Lilah placed 18th. In the Senior Boys, Angus came 24th, Henry 27th and Albert placed 35th overall.

The Senior Girls Relay Team took to the pool next, with Grace S, Jessica P-K, Grace F, and Lilah representing our school. Despite being the smallest school in the race, competing against schools from Moree, Walgett, Tamworth, Wee Waa, Narrabri, and Gunnedah, our girls put up a fight like David against Goliath. With a strong support from our crowd, our team secured a commendable third place overall. This accomplishment is truly remarkable! On the other hand, our Senior Boy Relay Team, comprising of Albert, Angus, Tom, and Henry, finished in 6th place overall. Similar to the girls' team, the boys triumphed over a number of large schools in the diocese.

In the 11 Years Girls Breaststroke event, Grace S achieved a 7th place finish in the final.

Following that, Josie participated in the Junior Girls 50m Backstroke and secured a 14th place overall. Our last competitors, Jessica and Grace F, performed exceptionally well in their respective heats, with Jessica taking 2nd place and Grace F securing 3rd place.

Jessica' s 2nd place in the 50m Freestyle, earned her a well-deserved spot in the Armidale Diocese squad. She will now have the opportunity to compete at the prestigious Polding Swimming Trials, taking place at Sydney Olympic Park on the 3rd of April. We extend our sincerest wishes for her success and good fortune in this upcoming event.

St Patrick's Primary Sports Handbook

St Patrick's now has an official sports handbook and it has been updated after the school swimming carnival held recently. This book is designed to give all members associated with our school a clearer understanding of when our school conducts our various sporting carnivals, the processes/qualifying times involved for students who want to represent our school at Diocesan sporting events as well as an explanation of the representative sporting pathways your child may want to undertake in their respective sports.
