Kindergarten Thalgarrah Excursion

Kindergarten had a fun-filled adventure at Thalgarrah last Friday! The excitement was high as we boarded the bus, ready for a day of exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning in the great outdoors.

We began our day investigating what living things need to survive. The students enjoyed observing and discussing the basic needs of plants and animals — plants, air, water, and shelter. One of the highlights of the morning was meeting a curious little leaf insect! There were lots of gasps and giggles as the brave took turns gently holding this fascinating creature and noticing how well it camouflaged itself among the leaves.

Next, we made our way to the garden where we picked and tasted some fresh vegetables straight from the garden beds — and they were delicious! Students learned how plants grow, what they need to stay healthy, and where our food comes from. After that, we had the chance to enjoy a morning tea made from edible plants — a new experience for many!

Our adventures continued with a lively bush concert that had everyone listening carefully for bush sounds. We even made our own “whiff tea,” experimenting with different native plants and herbs to create wonderful scents that filled the air. The children loved sharing their favourite smells and comparing which ones were the strongest, sweetest, or silliest!

Later in the day, we explored some important environmental topics, including the ways we can help protect animal habitats and care for our planet. Students showed great curiosity and care as they discussed how small actions can make a big difference in preserving the natural world.

Just when we thought our day couldn’t get any more exciting, we discovered that something strange had happened — our teddy bears and lunches had disappeared! The children eagerly followed a trail of clues through the bush to solve the mystery. To everyone’s delight, our teddies had been busy setting up a special picnic lunch for us! It was the perfect ending to a day full of adventure, teamwork, and laughter.

Our Kindergarten students returned to school tired but happy, with plenty of stories to tell and new knowledge about the environment, living things, and the importance of caring for our world. It truly was a memorable day of fun and learning at Thalgarrah!
