Year 6 Curriculum News

Welcome to Term 4

Term 4 is always a busy and fun-filled time of year for Year 6. Amongst many other important Year 6 events we have Camp in Week 6 of the term and Graduation activities at the end of term. We also have our Remembrance Day Ceremony and a History box incursion to look forward to.

We eagerly anticipate celebrating the end of the Year 6 students’ BNPS journey with you!

Literacy

Reading

Students will continue to read, interpret and respond to a wide range of rich literature. They analyse these texts and support interpretations with evidence drawn from the text.

We continue to incorporate SMART Spelling words into our Spelling lists, as well as vocabulary that is specific and relevant to our Units of Inquiry.

The Year 6 students employ a variety of strategies for writing, including notetaking, using models, planning, editing and proofreading. The students will continue working on the six key traits that make up quality writing. They will also complete their primary school Memoirs and Harris Burdick short stories.

Numeracy

We will continue to work on Space, Probability and Measurement in Term 4. The Year 6 students will also focus on Number, Algebra and Geometry strands. During the term the students will have opportunities to work on more investigative and hands on activities related to these strands, such as using a protractor and scales.

It is important that the students keep working on their automatic response of all times tables and measurement facts at home. The students will continue to work on Problem solving strategies in class.

Speaking & Listening

This Term we are focusing on:
Listening carefully and with respect when teachers and other students are speaking.
Oral presentation skills during our Sharing the planet Unit of Inquiry.

Rights, Resilience & Respectful Relationships

As part of our Wellbeing Program in Year 6 we will continue the government mandated Resilience Rights & Respectful Relationships lessons in Week 1, Term 4. We will focus on Topic 3 & 4.
