It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of the year!

In Term 4, the Year 4 students will be writing letters and meeting their 2025 buddies. A very exciting time for all!

The students will be exploring the Transdisciplinary Theme, ‘Where We Are In Place And Time’, focussing on the Central Idea, ‘Exploration leads to discoveries and opportunities and new understandings’. To round out the year they will inquire into the Transdisciplinary Theme, ‘How We Express Ourselves’ focussing on the Central Idea, ‘People communicate by expressing themselves in many different ways.’

Camp also features this term! We are looking forward to our trip to CYC ADANAC in Yarra Junction in November.

Literacy

Daily 5 activities:

Read to Self – ‘Good Fit’ books. At our weekly Library visits, the Year 4 students will share recommendations of novels they have enjoyed. We hope to expand their interests by exposing the children to a broad the range of genres.

Word Work - SMART Spelling – extra focus on syllables, sounds, commonly used words, etymology and mnemonics
Work on Writing - Recounts and Narratives - specific focus on the Writing Traits of Voice, Ideas, Presentation, Conventions, Organisation, Word Choice and Sentence Fluency. We will continue to expose the children to quality mentor texts to help develop their Voice and Word Choice through ‘Borrowing Ideas’ from published authors. Students will be encouraged to edit their writing to ensure that they have punctuated accurately. We will revise the use of capitalisation, punctuation at the end of sentences and speech marks with appropriate punctuation inside them.

Numeracy

Number: We will be continuing to revise all four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Algebra: Continuing to extend and apply facts to develop both written and mental strategies for larger numbers.
Measurement: Focus will be on introducing Mass, Volume and Capacity
Space: Beginning our unit on Shape and covering all elements of two- and three-dimensional objects.
Statistics: Look at data collection and different ways in which to represent this data. Will also be looking at different ways to collect data using different types of surveys.
Probability: Chance and Data.

Inclusive Approaches

RRRR – Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships and Building Respectful Relationships

As part of our Wellbeing Program in Year 4 we will begin the government mandated Resilience Rights & Respectful Relationships lessons in Week 1, Term 4. We will focus only on Topic 8. Weekly lessons will help develop students' social, emotional, and positive relationship skills.

The Resilience Project

We will continue to work through the Resilience Project lessons to build gratitude, empathy and mindfulness.
