Learning Update
From Mr Collins 3-6
Week 4 and 5 were excellent in the Senior Room! We are really in the swing of things now and student focus is at an all-time high. My IEP's have come home, and you can see the goals we look to work on this semester. Halfway done, but an even bigger half to go!
English
Our Poetry unit is now complete and we have moved onto explanation writing. Whilst challenging, the kids are beginning to see the difference between a procedure and an explanation, and ar going through the writing process to build the strongest texts possible. We finished our mento text; Bin Chicken and next week will be moving onto Grandma Forgets. This week we had our first spelling revision test where the kids had to apply their spelling rules to a series of randomly selected words to assess their spelling rule retention. The kids really enjoyed playing the spelling memory game to prepare for the assessment.
Our new class novel is a Morris Gleitzman called 'Girl Underground.' This is a heavier topic, however the kids are really enjoying engaging in deep conversations with their peers.
Maths
More Number Pattern work, real life timetables, Cartesian Coordinates, grids and work on data averages have kept us extremely busy lately. Check out the kids in action!
TRP (The Resilience Project)
It would seem quite unfair to build these amazing board games and not get a chance to play them. I still can't believe how great they were. A big thank you to the parents who helped their kids get the finishing touches done at home.
PE
The day we were all waiting for! The 2026 Campaspe Cluster Athletics Day finally arrived... and we nailed it! Ryley completed a perfect scorecard of 18 out of a possible 18 and was awarded the 8/9 year old champion. All of the other kids also scored ridiculously well, many receiving multiple ribbons, and I'm happy to announce that Raywood Primary came second place on the day. I can't remember ever making it in the top 3, so this is a mighty achievement for our school.
Integrated Studies
The history timeline is really coming along now. This week we looked closely at life in Britain prior to venturing to Australia to find out more about the reasons for leaving in the first place.

P/2 Learning Update – Weeks 4 & 5
Literacy
We have been strengthening our recall through retrieval practice, revisiting sounds and heart words we have already learnt. We have also been learning about homophones and the suffix -ed. To help move our learning into our long-term memory, we have been incorporating lots of whole-body learning and movement breaks into our lessons. For writing, we have been focusing on letter reversals (e.g. b/d), as well as building resilience and confidence to keep going and “have a go” when students are unsure how to spell a word.
Maths
We are continuing to explore arrays to build our understanding of multiplication and division. Following a maths survey with Mr Collins, we discovered that we need to focus more on applying our mathematical knowledge to real-life situations. We have been doing just that by using arrays to investigate things such as blocks of chocolate (yum) and working out how many seats might be in a movie theatre. It has been fantastic to see students making connections between maths and the world around them. But don't tell Mr Sait we've been drawing on the tables.
History
For Integrated Studies we have been learning about important people from the past and completed our first big-kid poster, focusing on Mary Reibey. The students were very proud of their finished work! This week, we have moved on to learning about rules and laws, exploring why they are important and how they help our communities.
The Resilience Project
In our TRP sessions, Ms Lehre's group has been focusing on mindfulness. This week, we practised mindfulness by tracking bubbles with our eyes and focusing our attention on their movement. It was a lovely opportunity to slow down, concentrate and be present in the moment.

STEM & Kitchen Garden Program (KGP)
We have had another great few weeks!
In STEM we have continued to learn about how we can be Water Heroes. The students have been working hard to create posters showing how this can be done. These posters will be entered into a Colabin Water competition for the chance to win a prize for our school!
In the garden the students spent time weeding, planting some winter seeds and we started germinating spring seeds. Our hope is that by the time spring hits, we will have some established seedlings ready to put into the ground.
This week in the kitchen the grade 3-6 students prepared chicken and vegetable soup for the school to have for lunch while the grade P-2 made some delicious bread rolls to go along with it.
We introduced some roles in the which the students will rotate through each week. This gives all students a task to be in charge of to ensure the cooking process runs smoothly, and everyone gets to eat lunch!
