SRC Movie Afternoon

Gardenvale Primary is hosting a Movie Afternoon on Friday 28 August at 12:00 pm, with every dollar raised going straight to The Smith Family, supporting Australian kids doing it tough.

It's easy to forget how big the gap is: right now, 1 in 6 Australian children are living in poverty, and 1 in 3 Australian students can't read proficiently. That second stat hits close to home for us as educators - literacy really is the door to everything else.

The good news is these programs work. Last year, 90% of children in The Smith Family's student2student reading program improved their reading age, and over 71,000 Australian students were supported through Learning for Life sponsorships. Kids in the program go on to finish school and move into work or further study at far higher rates than their peers.

How to take part:

• $2 for a movie ticket
• +$2 extra for an Oodie, toy, or snack
• Bring money to your child's class teacher
