Mr Jason Lappin, Head of Sport
Hello and welcome back to Term 3. We have plenty of sport on offer for students of all year levels and abilities again this term.
This week saw the commencement of Rowing training with a large group of students putting their name down to get involved.
Next week will see the start of the following sports:
Students need to listen to the morning messages and regularly check Microsoft teams so they get the most up to date information and can communicate with their coach.
Please see below an outline of sports on offer for Term 3. Thank you to all the staff listed above that are assisting with coaching a team this term.
First round of ACC Basketball was played this week with both teams winning comfortably by 20. Interesting start to the ACC season with five of the First V team unable to play —
Ned Renfree and Jack Hexter playing in the US, Brock Healy out with a shoulder injury (he's 6 foot 7), and Harry Alsop and Plucky on camp.
Needless to say that left us a bit short (literally) but with a last minute call up Tyler Cowan (aka: Mr I can play any sport), Ned Bennett and Jake Barams stepping in as fill ins they were able to add strength to both teams.
A team, led by Jacob Britt, started slow but seemed to be building the whole game. Playing strong defence and using the ball efficiently to get some easy buckets. Towards the end of the game Emmanuel seemed to give up as we were getting better with every minute!
B team, led by Toby Walshe, started strong and got away to an early lead. Tyler Cowan and Jordy Beaston playing the big man role were well supported by Alex Stevens, Henry Ebbels, Toby Walshe, who were all shooting well from the 3-point line.
Both teams played well together with everyone contributing to the win! Looking forward to seeing what we can do with our full team!

As part of the BAS competition, we compete in three events: the Road Relays, Cross Country and Lap of the Lake. We will also compete in the ACC Cross Country event in Week 9. This will be a great challenge for our boys against the might of the Melbourne schools. The boys need to keep an eye on the Daily Messages for information about upcoming events.
Road Relays
The SPC Cross Country team participated in our first event for the year, the BAS Road Relays. The event saw a change of location this year from Lake Wendouree to Victoria Park. Our College was successful in winning both the A and B divisions in the Senior and Junior sections. Our Intermediate boys finished third in the A Division and second in the B Division. A very solid set of results.

The best form of communication we have with parent/guardians is via the Parent Access Module (PAM). Students require permission to participate in all sport. Parent/guardians will receive the information through a PAM activity permission. Please ensure that you read the information prior to giving permission and that you also talk to students about the information.
The daily messages are one of the best ways we can distribute information to students about sports that are on offer and where sign up meetings will be held. Students should check the daily messages regularly.
Once students have signed up for a sport, we will be adding them into a MS Teams group where they can communicate directly with their coach. Students must communicate with their coach if they are unavailable for a match so we can find a replacement to ensure we have a full team for each match. If students are unsure of how to sign up for a sport or want more information, they should visit sports staff in the gymnasium.
Students need to ensure they are in the correct uniform to participate. The general sport uniform is the navy blue polo top, navy shorts and white socks. Certain sports will require very specific clothing e.g. Soccer will need to purchase SPC soccer shorts and socks and Basketball will need to purchase SPC Basketball shorts. Students should check with their coach as to what is required. Uniform can be purchased through Dobsons, online or at the College during shop opening hours.
I wish all students and coaches the best in Term 3. Always play the game in the right spirit, wear the correct uniform and respect the facilities, home and away. St Patrick’s College is steeped in sporting tradition, and you are encouraged to add more chapters to our past endeavours.
