Middle School

Mrs Karina Dunne, Head of Middle School

It is great to see so many students return to Term 3 with joy and enthusiasm! The start of Term 3 has been positive in many ways for both our students and teachers in Middle School.

Year 9 students have made significant strides in their new Semester 2 electives this week, absorbing a wealth of new knowledge. Year 10 students, now in their second week of new semester electives, have shown great initiative and are fully engaged as they prepare for their final semester in Middle School.

We head into a busy yet rewarding term with year-level activities and the 2025 subject selection process underway. As we approach the time for selecting subjects for the upcoming academic year, we understand that this can be a critical and sometimes challenging process for both students and their families. The choices made now can influence future educational and career paths, so it's essential to approach this task with careful consideration and planning.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will focus on subject information for students across Middle School, so that they can make informed decisions about their subject choices as they move into 2025. It is essential that they make informed choices based on the information provided but that they also consider subjects that they thoroughly enjoy now and are good at. Doing subjects that students enjoy and succeed in will continue to foster that love of learning.

If further assistance is required to support this crucial subject selection time, please contact your son’s homeroom teacher, year-level coordinators or myself. We will be more than happy to assist families. Please encourage your son to ask as many questions as possible so that they can get a better understanding of what subjects offer and what sorts of content they will learn. Subject selection are due on the following dates:

2025 Year 11: Friday, 9 August

2025 Year 10: Friday, 16 August

In Middle School we would also like to welcome a new member to the Year 10 Year Level Team, Mr Daniel Willey. Daniel will be working alongside Ms Rachael Leighton as the second Year Level coordinator. It is a privilege to have Daniel on board, and we wish him the very best as he takes on this important and crucial role working alongside our Year 10 cohort.

Important upcoming events

Week 2

  • Next week, two nights are being offered to the current Year 10 cohort (Monday and Thursday evenings), where academic advisors will sit with parents or carers and individual students to provide guidance in selecting appropriate subjects for the VCE/VM pathway component for 2025. These interviews are compulsory and will be a great opportunity to ask questions and obtain more information about chosen pathways. As a school, we want to ensure that students succeed in their choices and that informed decisions about subjects will set the pace for a successful year ahead. Bookings can be made via the PAM portal, and students are permitted to choose any of the listed advisors with whom they feel comfortable discussing these choices.

Week 3

  • On Wednesday, 31 July, Year 10 students will attend the second Tomorrow Man Module in a workshop setting. This will happen during lessons 2 and 3 and will run in the same format as module one. A detailed parent information letter will be sent to parents before this session.
  • The Semester One Academic Excellence Assembly will be on Thursday, August 1.
  • School Photos will be on Friday, August 2 (individual portrait photos).

Week 4

  • On Monday, 5 August, School Photos (Roll Call year level photos) will take place during the day.
  • On Wednesday, 7 August, Year 10 students will be receiving their immunisations. More information will be distributed in the next couple of weeks.

As we embark on this new term, we are filled with optimism and excitement for the journey ahead. The beginning of a term is always a time of fresh opportunities, renewed energy, and the chance to set new goals. Whether you are a student eager to dive into your studies, a parent supporting your child's learning, or a staff member dedicated to providing an excellent educational experience, we all play a crucial role in making this term successful.

Our school community thrives on collaboration, support, and a shared commitment to excellence. Let's embrace the challenges and opportunities that come our way, knowing that together we can achieve great things.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication. Here's to a fantastic term filled with growth, learning, and success.
