Body language

The Japanese faired quite well during the pandemic mainly due to the social distancing nature of their body language. Bowing shows respect to those you are speaking with, and the lack of physical contact kept people safer from germs.

Did you know that the reason people wear face masks in Japan is not because they don’t want to catch illness, but rather because they don’t want to spread illness when they are sick. This is another respectful part of their culture which is often misunderstood in other countries. Respect is at the very heart of Japanese culture and language.
