Term 3 Commencement

As we commence a new term, our focus preparing for VCE/VM, relationship building, and study skills has led to stronger student engagement within our Year 10 cohort. This has also resulted in positive student and family endorsement of our college thanks to a successful information evening focused on senior school and an exciting Discovery Day.

Our team have, through their unwavering efforts, ensured that the Year 10 cohort has made solid gains from the start of the term, and this led to proud families and students celebrating their successes at Awards Day. We are confident that this work continues, and we are committed to ensuring a successful student experience in Semester 1, 2025.

Mr. Justin Wu, Year 10 Pedagogy Engagement and Leading Teacher.

Year 10 VCE into VM Information Evening 2024

On Thursday 25th July, the Year 10 team hosted the student parent information evening to support our cohort in Year 11 in 2025. The important role of attendance, GPA, study skills, subject selections and work experience was discussed by Mr. McGavisk, Ms. Neil and the Pathways team. With one semester left, we wish our Year 10 cohort well on their journey.  Next term they will have to consider selections, career pathways and most importantly the journey into Senior School in 2025.

It was a great pleasure to see many of our families in attendance at our event information evenings in Term 2 and Term 3. These activities help families gain a better understanding of how to support their children. A special acknowledgement to the Year 10 team, the Multicultural Aid team, Ms. Neill and Mrs. Ronique Aiolupotea for their assistance in contacting and bringing families together.

Year 10 Discovery Day 2024

On behalf of Ms. Neill, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for an amazing Discovery Day.  The display exhibitions were a fantastic addition, with feedback being nothing short of 100% positive endorsement. The external stall holders, who presented along with the learning areas, commented on how great our students were.  Many families were clearly interested in the options that were showcased.  In the interview area, it was humbling to see our wonderful cohort of Year 10s take part in the event.  It was also a reminder that for so many of our students with their unique differences, be it language or cultural background, these occasions create opportunities to bring us all together.  The diligent work of Year 10 and MEA team contacting families saw us complete 161 interviews – 91% of the cohort!

Winter Uniform Reminder

As it is now the winter season, a courtesy reminder that the correct uniform needs to be worn. During Term 3, we expect the winter uniform will continue to be worn. We expect that P.E. uniforms will be worn only on designated sport days. Students are also required to bring in their Ready to Learn Materials to form and classes throughout the day. Our form and classroom teachers will continue to support your child by conducting regular checks to ensure your child has the necessary support.

STUDY SKILLS PROGRAM

Our work in positive engagement and our commitment to the student studies program, has led to another exciting Elevate Education workshop in Week 6. The session will cover elements of goal setting, university scores and mapping out note-taking strategies.

Here are key essential tips and skills for parents and families to engage with their child at home during the term:

  • Finding my own study space: Help students identify their individual study preferences and determine the most effective study methods for them.
  • Time Management: Assist students to set up schedules, prioritize tasks and commitments to effectively manage their time.
  • Homework Completion: Encourage students to dedicate a minimum of 30 minutes per subject each day to homework tasks.
  • Work-Life Balance: Support students to balance any part-time job responsibilities with their schoolwork and other commitments.
  • Boosting Memory: By having a calm and clear mindset, and regular intervals of study and activity will allow you to retain knowledge, both short and long-term.
  • Practising Subject Skills: By regularly practising core and elective subjects, students will build mastery of content and skills needed for successful outcomes. Students will also understand how practise leads to finesse in their learning.
