Junior School Opening Mass
Our Junior School Opening Mass last Friday morning was another wonderful reminder of the Inclusive Community in which we all belong to. As a Catholic School, in the Edmund Rice Tradition, we value moments where we can come together in prayer as we look forward with optimism to the year ahead. A special thank you to all who were able to join us, it was lovely to see the College Chapel full of parents and guests.
Over the past two weeks, we have had the privilege of acknowledging many Year 6 boys who have been recognised with formal leadership positions. At the same time, we acknowledge the boys who applied but were not selected. Their willingness to put themselves forward speaks volumes about their character and their desire to contribute to our community. Congratulations to the following boys who were inducted as Junior School Captains on Friday.

Friday’s Mass invited us to reflect on the true meaning of leadership. Leadership is often mistaken for a badge or a title, but at its heart, it is about service. The most powerful form of leadership is servant leadership, the commitment to lift others up, to act with humility, and to place the needs of the community before our own.
Servant leadership begins with a simple question: How can my actions help the people around me? At Trinity, this is referred to as being a Man for Others. When we lead by serving, we listen more than we speak, we support more than we demand, and we act with empathy and responsibility. This is the kind of leadership that strengthens a community.
Every one of us, including students, staff, and families, has a role to play. Every action we take, big or small, creates a ripple effect. A kind word can brighten someone’s day. A careless comment can do the opposite. A moment of courage can inspire others. Leadership is not something we switch on and off; it is reflected in the choices we make consistently.
Whether or not a boy holds a formal leadership position, he influences the people around him. His behaviour sets the tone, his attitude shapes our community, his actions contribute to the culture we build together.
As we move forward this year, we look forward to seeing every boy lead with service, act with integrity, and remember that true leadership is measured not by how many people follow, but by how many people we lift up along the way as we continue to strive to be Men for Others.
HOJS Forum
A reminder that the Head of Junior School Forum is on Friday 27 February. This will take place in the Junior School STEM room at 1.45pm. This is an informal gathering which allows me to hear from parents from different year levels and provide any updates about the Junior School. I look forward to seeing those who are able to make it.
I look forward to seeing those parents who can make it to the Parent Welcome Sundowner this evening.
God Bless,
Mr James McPherson
Head of Junior School
