Marsh/Tierney Scholarship

The Marsh/Tierney Scholarship is an opportunity for Year 11 students residing in the Latrobe Valley to join a Kokoda trek with ‘Adventure Kokoda’ in the July school holidays. The Marsh/Tierney Scholarship, worth $6300, provides our younger generation with an insight into the Gippsland connection to the Kokoda Trail, and the sacrifices made by men from this area. The successful applicant will be assisted with training and chaperoned on the trek. In addition to the scholarship, there will be around an $600-800 commitment required from participants for items like hiking boots, some incidentals and medical expenses. Details of the trek and information on the application process is attached below. Applications must be received no later than Friday 11 April 2025.

A message from the Latrobe Urgent Care Centre

The Latrobe Priority Primary Care Centre (PPCC) has been renamed and is now known as the Latrobe Urgent Care Clinic (UCC).

This is a name change only; the current service offering and operating hours remain the same. The newly named Latrobe UCC will continue to provide GP-led care for those in need of urgent care but not an emergency response. It will be open seven days a week, from 8am to 10pm, at 42-44 Fowler Street, Moe.

Community members can receive free, urgent care at the Latrobe UCC for reasons such as:

·         mild to moderate infections

·         fever

·         pain when urinating

·         suspected minor fractures and sprains

·         back and muscle pain

·         minor cuts, burns, and insect or animal bites

·         heartburn, vomiting, nausea

·         headaches, migraines and brief fainting

·         constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain

·         allergies and rashes

·         light bleeding in the first trimester of pregnancy

·         mild to moderate asthma attacks, coughs and other respiratory symptoms.

Since opening in January 2023, the Latrobe UCC has been one of the highest performing regional centres in the state. Ninety-nine percent of the patients we have surveyed confirmed they would have visited the local emergency department instead (if the centre didn’t exist), and 91 percent of survey respondents would visit the centre again.

This is an incredible endorsement from the very people who use this service. We look forward to offering the same quality of care with the same resources as the newly named Latrobe UCC.
