What's Happening in Science?
In Reception Science, we are bringing together all the skills we have learnt over the past three terms to investigate the exciting question, “What is a scientist?”
To help us explore this question, we are discovering the fascinating work of some well-known scientists and learning all about their discoveries. Our first scientist was Jane Goodall, a pioneering primatologist whose discoveries changed the way we think about and understand chimpanzees. Through her work, she also inspired people around the world to recognise the importance of conservation and protecting the natural world.
We discovered that Jane Goodall used three skills when researching chimpanzees: watching, recording and sharing. We talked about what each of these skills involves and why they are important.
Then it was our turn to think and work like scientists! We had a go at using these skills ourselves. We began our own scientific investigations by observing the living things in our school environment.
We also had a go at drawing like scientists, using chimpanzees as our inspiration.
In Reception, we often refer to ourselves as “scientists of the everyday”, and we are excited to see where our curiosity takes us next!
