1. Visiting African-percussion specialist works with Senior Ensemble, 21.7.26
On Tuesday 21.7.26, experienced African-drum teacher, Chris Lesser, visited HPS Senior Ensemble rehearsal and worked with students in preparing percussion parts for ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’, which we will play at RECORDARAMA (mini-eisteddfod). Chris Lesser is a respected Australian musician and educator known for teaching all levels, including in primary schools and tertiary institutions, and it was an outstanding experience for our recorder ensemble. An amazing fun fact – guess where Chris went to school? HEIDELBERG PRIMARY!
2. HPS Senior Recorder Ensemble to perform at RECORDARAMA
An exciting HPS-Recorder-Program event for Senior Recorder Ensemble will be to represent the school on Saturday 1 August at RECORDARAMA (mini-eisteddfod), in friendly competition with ensembles from other primary schools.
3. Grade 6 students to participate in RECORDARAMA solos, 1.8.26
Following the Primary Ensemble section at 9 am, those HPS recorder players who sat for AMEB Recorder (Comprehensive) examinations in June 2026, Maya E and Zoe, will be participating in the RECORDARAMA solos – good luck and have fun!
4. Music Performance and the Rainbow Recorder Program – invitation to parents and recorder students, 6 pm, Tuesday 11.8.26
Parents/Caregivers: This year, I am trialling a new idea – to host an information session that will cover an introduction to music performance and the Rainbow Recorder Program method I teach, so you know how best to support your child’s learning. It may be of particular interest to those new (or newly returned) to recorder lessons, but ALL students and parents/caregivers are very welcome. I envisage it will take up to around 45 minutes, and will be held in the school Library at 6 pm on Tuesday 11 August. Please see email from me for details and RSVP to <fionawalters@ioville.net>. Thank you.
Happy music making!
