Welcome to IPS

Monday’s assembly was enhanced by a beautiful performance from our Corelli Strings group. The students have been practising incredibly hard in preparation for their upcoming performance at the Night of Music, and their dedication certainly showed. Judging by the rapturous applause from the audience, all their hard work is paying off in spades!

PFA Father's Day Events

The PFA are running two Father's Day events - a Father's Day Stall on Wednesday 2nd September and a Father's Day breakfast on Thursday 3rd September.

 The PFA are looking for helpers to sell items at the Father's Day stall.  If you're able to volunteer for a shift, please include your name and details in the roster by clicking the link below:

Bullying No Way

Our Student Voice & Wellbeing Ambassadors spent last week creating a fantastic display that they revealed at assembly on Monday when they delivered their speeches about the importance of Bullying No Way Week and how small actions contribute to a positive, safe, inclusive and supportive culture at IPS.

Wear it Purple Day

Respect for diversity is an important part of the Victorian Curriculum. On 28th August, students are invited to wear a splash of purple to help celebrate diversity.

R U OK? Day

On Thursday 10 September, Ivanhoe Primary School will be recognising R U OK? Day, Australia's national day of action that reminds us of the importance of checking in with the people around us. By simply asking, "Are you OK?", listening without judgement and encouraging support when needed, we can help others feel seen, valued and connected.

Throughout the day, students will participate in age-appropriate classroom activities and discussions that promote kindness, empathy and looking out for one another. These learning experiences help students develop positive relationships, build emotional awareness and understand that it's okay to ask for help when they need it. Together, we are continuing to foster a caring, inclusive and supportive school community where everyone feels they belong.

Parent Opinion Survey 

Our school is conducting the annualParent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

Please check your email to see if you were a member of the random sample of families that was sent an invitation to complete the survey. 

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026. 

Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. 

The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete.  If you require assistance in completing the survey, please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school if you require assistance in another language.

Book Week

Next week marks Book Week, one of the most anticipated events on the IPS calendar. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading, storytelling and the creativity of our students.

Of course, we have our ever-popular Book Week Parade on Wednesday 26 August, but Book Week is about so much more than dressing up. It is a chance for our students to discover their own voices as authors and illustrators and to share their stories with others.

I was particularly impressed when Yan from 1RB came to show me his comic book today. Not only had he written an engaging and very funny story, but his illustrations were incredibly creative and detailed. What impressed me most, however, was the confidence he showed when reading and sharing his book. It was wonderful to see him so proud of his work and so enthusiastic about sharing his creativity with others.

These moments are a wonderful reminder of the power of books to inspire, engage and empower our young people. I can't wait to see what other budding authors and illustrators emerge during Book Week!

IPS SKI TEAM

Congratulations to Jules T (5T), Miles Z (5CK), Clementine D (5M), George D (3M), Billie S (3J), Ottilia H (3C) and Freddie H (FH) who represented Ivanhoe Primary in the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Mount Buller this week, and also to Niamh M (6T) who competed at the Victorian Interschools Cross Country Championships earlier in August. 

All competitors achieved personal bests and represented our School with pride! 

A special mention to Jules T who finished in the top 40 of approximately 200 competitors in two of his events.

Finally

We are very proud to have such a respectful and considerate school community, which is why it is with some regret that we need to remind families about the importance of being respectful to our school neighbours.

Please ensure that you do not park on nature strips or in the designated No Standing zones along Tate Street. This week, some of our neighbours reported that vehicles, including SUVs, had been parked on the grass in front of their homes. With the recent wet weather, this has caused damage to the grass and nature strips.

We understand that parking around the school can be challenging, particularly at busy times. However, we ask that all families please be mindful of the impact our parking choices can have on those who live nearby.

If parking is unavailable, please consider using the local car parks at Ivanhoe Plaza or the Library and enjoying the short walk to school. A little extra consideration goes a long way in maintaining the positive relationships we have with our neighbours.
