Derinya Expected Behaviour Matrix

At Derinya, we are committed to fostering a positive and safe school culture—one where students understand what is expected of them and feel supported in meeting those expectations.

In 2025, we introduced a set of expected behaviours across the school, closely aligned to our school values. These expectations were developed collaboratively throughout 2024, with input from both students and staff. The Student Voice Team and student leaders played a key role in shaping these behaviours to ensure they are meaningful, relevant, and student-friendly.

To support this initiative, we launched a new positive reinforcement system in Term 2, alongside the introduction of our new house names. Students can now earn Derinya Dollars by demonstrating the expected behaviours. If awarded to a student, these are placed in house boxes located at the office and contribute towards each house’s total points—fostering a strong sense of belonging and house spirit.

My Emotions Intervention for Primary School-Aged Children and Their Parents

Turner Clinics at Monash University run ‘My Emotions’ which is a brief clinical intervention (3 to 6 sessions) and research study designed to help children and their parents to develop emotional awareness and regulation skills.

·  Personalised Assessment and Intervention: The team work collaboratively to identify specific emotional challenges for each child and family and to tailor the intervention to their distinct needs.

·  Parental Involvement: We understand the important role parents play in their child's emotional development. Our program actively engages parents in the intervention process, offering them the knowledge and tools to support their child's emotional development.

·  Practical Techniques: We provide accessible, actionable techniques and activities that can be seamlessly integrated into daily life by each child and family.

The multidisciplinary team includes Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Neuropsychologists, and Provisional Psychologists undertaking advanced training and doctoral research.
