On Monday, at Bundoora Secondary College Nini, Heath, Harnoor, Isabella, Angus and I participated in the Interschool STEAM challenge. We started with a mathematical puzzle about escaping the Maths Jungle Temple, solving 9 different puzzles as a team. My team was Lou, Casper, Harnoor and myself. We came second, but we did pick up a mistake. We also played a game called Fizz Buzz, where I was one of the winners. We did this amazingly fun activity with Matt.

We also made Rube Goldberg machines as an engineering/art activity. Again, my team was Casper, Lou, Harnoor, and myself. A Rube Goldberg machine is a homemade complex marble run normally made from wood and cardboard. My group made a Rube Goldberg machine that included a pulley, a straight drop, and an inclined ramp. We came third with 29 points. We did this activity with Michael.

Overall, I really enjoyed both activities and participated with so much intent. The activities were just way too easy to get engaged in. I can’t wait for the next 5/6 immersion day at BSC!

Inter School STEAM challenge

Last Monday, all of the selected grade 5/6s went on an excursion to Bundoora secondary and we did engineering and maths.

In maths, we did problem-solving, and we had to find the treasure after solving all the problems and equations. When a group found the treasure, we all got freddo frogs and then we played a game called Fizz Buzz.

Then we also did engineering and all of us had to create a marble run (in other words, we made a Rube Goldberg machine!), we were all assigned into groups, and we had two hours to make it.

On the 27th of October, I went to Bundoora Secondary College for the Inter School STEAM challenge. When we got there, we had a tour of the school, seeing the classrooms and Oval. At 10:00 am we had our first session or activity which was maths. We did an activity called: Can you escape the Hidden Temple of Maths? We were in groups, and we had to figure out puzzles to unlock the next puzzle. In the end, we found out we were timed. Our school had a time of 44 minutes.

We also played a game called Fizzbuzz where you had to count from 1 and if it was a multiple of 3 or 5 you had to say either fizz or buzz. 3s are a fizz, 5s are a buzz and if it's a multiple of both you had to say fizzbuzz.

We then had sausages for lunch and played some games in the gymnasium. Then we headed to our next session which was engineering and art. In that session, we had to make a Rube Goldberg machine. Which is where you have to make a marble hit a bunch of objects to do something in an absurd way. Even though our group's ball didn’t make it to the end we still scored 38 points. It was a really fun experience, and I would like to do it again.

I had a great time at the interschool STEAM challenge today. It was an amazing day and I'm so happy I got the chance to go. I’m going to tell you about the two activities we had, starting with a maths challenge.

Put into groups, our task was to solve a puzzle by figuring out the clues. All the activities involved problem-solving skills, and, in the end, we were rewarded with a delicious treat. With fun activities and great storytelling, this activity was just as fun as the next one, the Rube Goldberg machines.

Flexing our creativity, we worked together to make a marble run timed to run for exactly 14 seconds. The room had so many items and tools to use! This activity was amazing and so was the entire day. I had an amazing time!

On October 27th, I took place in the Inter School STEAM Challenge. We did 2 activities today, including Engineering/Art, and Maths. In maths (The first session of the day), we did a temple escape. The only way to get out was to solve some questions, but every question got harder and harder. The reward was CHOCOLATE! It was fun, but very, very, challenging, especially the last one. But luckily, we finished off with a game called “FizzBuzz!”. Everyone had to line up in a circle and count to one hundred in turns. The aim of the game was, that every time we came up to a multiple of 3, the person who was up next to count would say “Fizz!”. But, when we got to a multiple of 5, the person whose turn it would say “Buzz!”. But, when we got to a multiple of 3 and 5, someone would say “Fizzbuzz!”.

For Engineering/Art, we did a marble run with everyday objects! Sadly, we came 3rd 🙁. Me, Milo, Heath, Bradley, and Fynn, worked together to make a cool, colourful, creative, beautiful, musical, and the best marble track around! It is kind of hard to explain what it looked like, but I can tell you, we deserved 1st! Today was Awesome! 😀

On the 27th of October, I did the Inter School STEAM Challenge. I had lots of fun. The Inter School STEAM Challenge was held at BSC [Bundoora Secondary College] which was next door to Bundoora Primary School.

When we got there, we had a tour of their school and we saw some year 12’s we saw the library,

Make it room, Science room and they were going to show us the reptile room, but it was locked so we couldn’t see the reptiles. They also showed us the greenhouse where there were Year 7’s that were doing stuff with the plants.

At 10 AM we had our first session/activity which was maths. We did an activity called Can you escape the Hidden Temple of Maths? We all worked really hard in groups of 3-4. In my group were Nini, Zoe, Angelia and me. Our time was 44 minutes, and the teacher Matt said we beat his time because it took him an hour to complete it. Our team didn't win but Hazel’s team did and got chocolate they were nice enough to share so everyone got one.

We played a game in that lesson after we all finished called FizzBuzz where u have to say Fizz if the number is a multiple of 3, Buzz if the number is the multiple of 5 and FizzBuzz if the number is a multiple of 3 and 5.

For the 2nd session, we had engineering/art, and we had to do “What’s a Rube Goldberg Machine”. I chose the same group, and we made a ramp and tested it. We had a really big one, but it accidently fell over so we just did a little one.

Then we had sausages for lunch and there were some doughnuts we all ate and then we finished and went back to school to get ready for home time.
