Should the use of wild circus animals be banned? That has been the focus of our persuasive writing this term with students writing a persuasive letter to argue their case. They have focused on creating strong arguments and using connectives, high modal language, rhetorical questions and a warning. We also spent a lot of time researching and developing our background knowledge about this topic and using the PEPS structure for our paragraphs (Point, Explanation, Proof, Summary). It has tied in nicely with our novel this term, The One and Only Ivan, which the students are really excited about.
The games we have been playing in Maths have been really motivating for students. As well as playing them in class we have been giving families an opportunity to be involved by having a go at home with our weekly games. Don’t forget students can also practise their number facts by jumping on to Nessy Number Sense too. Please contact us if you have any questions about how you support your child at home with these activities.
What an amazing time we had on camp at Sovereign Hill the other week! We are sure there were lots of stories to tell and fun activities to explain. So much achieved in a few short days including, gold panning ( yes, some people DID find gold!), learning about how people used to dress, candle dipping, mine tours, lolly making and the gold pour. The students showed such resilience, and eagerness to learn and make the most of their time away. We were super proud of them all!
“I really enjoyed the mine tour the most because the hologram was cool, and I liked seeing the second biggest gold nugget.” Ryder
“I loved watching the lollies being made and I hope I can see it again one day.” Ruby
“I was proud of everyone that went and faced their fears of going down the mine and being away from their families. Thank you everyone!” Ethan
“I really liked gold panning because I found gold but even if we didn’t find gold, there were lots of cool rocks.” Owen
“I loved the candle shop and learnt how to make candles and there was a big selection of things to buy.” Lucy
“I really didn’t want to go because I have never been to camp before, but I faced my fears and did it anyway and had the best time!” Violet
“It was so bizarre how people wore their clothes back then. I am glad we don’t dress like that now.” Dinaya
