From the Office

Dear Families,

There has been a lot happening at school over the last 2 weeks with the COP Writing Moderation task in full swing, Plantation Day, Song Room lessons, Anglesea Camp, Stomp Incursion, & Coliban Water Incursion. It was nice to end on a relatively normal Friday. Thank you to all of the parents who have brought in payments for the upcoming camps and returned the forms. I know James will also be grateful when he returns. Whilst I have enjoyed the change in role over the last 7 weeks, my time as Acting Principal is coming to an end next week as we welcome James back to school. Again, if you need anything or have questions for us, please reach out.

Hayden Collins

Past Events

Writing Moderation - Congratulations to all of the students who participated in our Community of Practice Writing Moderation. This time the students were asked to plan, draft, revise, edit and publish a piece of writing centred around extreme weather. In each of the 3 sessions, we opened the separator between the classes so that all staff had the opportunity to see what both classes were doing and offer assistance to varying degrees. Since the completion, Mrs Light, Mrs Lehre and Mr Collins sat together to assess each writing sample against the 6+1 Traits of Writing and the Victorian Curriculum. These writing samples have been uploaded to our Google Drive and will be used in a future professional learning session with our Community of Practice.

Plantation Day -- It's really hard to put into words how proud we all are of our amazing students and the effort they put into the plantation. In true Raywood Primary style, we made this as educational as possible, involving maths and problem-solving in the planning. We separated the kids into 4 groups, each responsible for a quarter of the plantation area. Ultimately, our incredible children were able to plant 200 plants along our fence line, and were rewarded with a delicious lunch so kindly supplied by the Lindrea Family. I'd like to thank Emily Condon from DEECA (Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action) for her advice on the plantation and assistance with obtaining the grant that made this possible.

Anglesea Camp - Our two brave travellers ventured off to Anglesea without Mr Collins on Monday, as he was at a Professional Learning Day. He was however greeted by their smiling faces at tea time, along with stories of a great journey on the bus and some success scaling the rock climbing wall. They went on a night walk to see the ocean, climbed a huge flying fox tower, rode bikes to the beach, went surfing and swimming, paddled canoes in a local estuary, all before making their way back home. These 2 girls are the best. It was an absolute pleasure to be on camp with them.

Stomp Dance

We had an AMAZING time during our dance lesson with Kira from STOMP! Our students had the opportunity to get moving, learn new dance moves and build their confidence through dance. Our younger students learnt their own fun routine (Work up), while our older students took on a different dance, challenging themselves to remember the steps and put the moves together. A huge thank you to Kira for such an engaging and exciting experience. We loved dancing with you!

'Our Precious Water' Incursion

This week we were lucky enough to also have Colabin Water come to our school for an incursion. The students learnt about the water cycle, and why our water on Earth is precious.

True or False?

We share water with dinosaurs? (Ask your child for the answer!)

Earlier in Term 3 the students created a poster for why water is important. The students submitted their posters into a competition that colabin Water was having and Stella Spicer was lucky enough to take out third place for Grades 1-2! Well done Stella, great effort!
