Careers and Transition
Goals + Knowledge + Skills = Success
Another busy term for the CAT Team. Students have been provided with many learning experiences and opportunities to develop their skills and engage in work experience placements.
As 2025 draws to a close, we would like to thank all of our business partners, the Educational Pathways Program, Regional Industry Education Partnership, TAFE, various universities and Unisteps for supporting our students and providing them with so many amazing opprtunities.
We have had numerous students out on work experience this term. We extend our sincere thanks to the many local businesses and organisations who generously hosted our students for work experience placements. Your support plays a vital role in helping young people explore potential career paths, develop real-world skills, and gain confidence in professional environments. These opportunities are incredibly valuable and help bridge the gap between education and the world of work.

Year 9 participated in the University of Newcastle Unisteps program ‘Allied Health Explorer’. The students learned how trained professionals use science to support people’s health and recovery everyday through diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation. The students enjoyed the day exploring future career opportunities.

Congratulation to Sienna, Jacinta, Abbie and Breanna who have been successful in obtaining a 2026 School Based Traineeship in Nursing with Hunter New England Health based at Maitland Hospital. The students will complete a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistant while completing their Higher School Certificate.

We are incredibly proud to congratulate our Year 12 students who have secured earlyentry offers to a range of universities for 2026! These outstanding achievements reflect their dedication, perseverance, and consistent hard work throughout their senior years.
Early entry programs give students the wonderful opportunity to receive a university offer before final exams are completed. These offers recognise not only academic results, but also personal qualities such as leadership, community involvement, and commitment to learning.
For our students, this milestone is both a reward for their hard work and a head start on their next exciting chapter. It’s a testament to their determination and the support of our teachers, families, and school community.
Congratulations once again to all our early entry recipients — your future is bright, and we couldn’t be prouder!

We are incredibly proud of our students who have successfully completed their School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) this year! This is an outstanding achievement that reflects their ability to balance the demands of school, work, and formal training — a true testament to their commitment and determination.
Throughout the year, these students have shown remarkable grit and perseverance, overcoming challenges and staying focused on their goals. The skills, experience, and qualifications they’ve gained through their SBATs will no doubt set them up for success in their future careers and studies.
We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the businesses and training organisations who have provided invaluable support and mentorship, and to the parents and families who have encouraged and guided our students along the way.
Congratulations once again to all our SBAT graduates — your hard work has truly paid off!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of our students who have successfully completed a Certificate III, Certificate II, or Statement of Attainment as part of their studies this year! 🎓
These qualifications represent not only dedication and hard work, but also an exciting head start toward future careers. By combining academic learning with real-world skills, our students are building strong foundations for their chosen pathways — whether that’s entering the workforce, pursuing further training, or continuing their education.
Congratulations to all students on this outstanding accomplishment! Your commitment and enthusiasm are an inspiration to our school community, and we can’t wait to see where your skills and passion will take you next.

Responsible Service of Alcohol/Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RSA/RCG)
Students in Year 11 and Year 12 have been given the opportunity to attend an RSA/RCG course. The course will take place on December 2 and 3, 2025. These courses equip individuals with the knowledge to work in licensed venues by teaching them how to serve alcohol and monitor gambling responsibly. Completion of an RSA/RCG course is mandatory for many hospitality roles and leads to a competency card required by Liquor and Gaming NSW.
Barista Course
Students in Year 10 and Year 11 have been given the opportunity to complete a Barista Course on December 5, 2025. Students will experience a 5-hour barista experience that starts from the basics and culminates in two hours of non-stop coffee-making focusing on milk texturing and coffee art. Master Barista also results in a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment listing the units SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee and SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety.

We’re thrilled to share that the FGHS Careers and Transition Team has been recognised for Excellence in Careers and Transition Planning by the NSW/ACT Careers Advisers Association! Out of all the schools across NSW and the ACT, our Careers Hub has been highlighted as a benchmark for others to aspire to — a wonderful acknowledgement of the work happening here at FGHS.
We’re incredibly proud of this achievement and would like to thank the FGHS Executive Team for their continued support and investment in our programs, which help create so many valuable opportunities for our students.
A big thank you also goes to past members of the CAT Team, whose hard work and dedication helped lay the foundations for our success today.
