"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." Antoine de Saint-Exupéry,
It’s been a busy and productive term in the TAS, with students engaging in a wide range of hands-on learning experiences. Students have been developing practical skills, exploring design thinking, and applying creativity to solve real-world problems. Their enthusiasm and effort have been evident in every project undertaken this term.
The Year 11 Timber students have successfully completed their preliminary projects — a dartboard or hallway cabinet — showcasing impressive craftsmanship and attention to detail. They have now begun work on their major design portfolios, making a strong and promising start to the next stage of their studies.
S5 students have completed their lolly dispenser projects and are now working on a super secret book box — a clever design that looks just like a real book but opens to reveal a hidden compartment. This project has encouraged creativity, precision, and problem-solving as students refine their design and construction skills.
Meanwhile, Year 9 Timber students have finished their personalised timber drawers to a very high standard and are now designing and creating a project of their own choice for the remainder of the term. This has been a great opportunity for them to showcase independence and originality in their work.
Our Technology Mandatory students have been exploring creativity and design through a fun and colorful textiles project, where they are designing and producing their own tie-dye tote bags. This project allows students to experiment with fabric techniques, express individuality, and develop practical sewing and design skills.
Congratulations to Jerimiah Latham, who has been selected to nominate for SHAPE, a prestigious event that showcases outstanding major projects from HSC students across Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, and Textiles and Design in New South Wales. This is an incredible achievement and recognition of Jerimiah’s creativity, innovation, and hard work throughout his major project. The TAS staff and school community are extremely proud of his efforts and wish him every success in the nomination process.
