S8 Forces - Bird Projects

Students in S8 recently combined creativity and science in a hands-on project exploring forces in everyday life. As part of their Science unit, students designed, painted, and constructed their very own wooden flappy bird models. Through this engaging activity, students discovered how a pull force can create movement. When the string on their model was pulled, the wings lifted and lowered - demonstrating this scientific concept in a fun and practical way. The project was an enjoyable opportunity for students to apply their understanding of forces while expressing their creativity through design and colour. Well done S8!!

What's been happening in S4?

S4 students recently took part in a fascinating rat dissection as part of their Science studies. This hands-on experience allowed students to observe the structure and function of real organs, deepening their understanding of how body systems work.

Students showed great curiosity throughout the activity, carefully followed safety procedures and engaged in thoughtful discussion. It was an excellent opportunity to develop valuable scientific observation skills.

S4 recently attended an engaging excursion to Newcastle, where they explored the city’s fascinating historical sites. Students visited landmarks such as the Carrington Pumphouse, learning about its role in Newcastle’s industrial past, and explored the harbour and signal houses, discovering how communication and trade shaped the region’s development. A highlight of the day was visiting the Bogey Hole, one of Australia’s oldest ocean baths, hand-carved by convicts in the early 1800s. The excursion brought history to life, allowing students to connect what they have been learning in class to real-world locations. All students are to be commended on their engagement and behaviour on the day - great work S4!

S9 - Food in Art

S9 students have been busy exploring their creativity in a different manner this term through the 'Food in Art' unit. Students recently designed and created realistic model donuts using recycled materials, showcasing impressive creativity and attention to detail.

Taking their ideas a step further, students also developed their own donut brand and packaging, combining design skills with marketing flair. The results were both imaginative and visually striking. The students' work demonstrates not only focus and commitment, but also of how art connects to everyday life and personal interests.
