LANGUAGE - JAPANESE (日本語)
こんにちは!(konnichi wa!)
As the term winds to a close, it is a good time to reflect on the Japanese language and culture learning that has happened at FGHS over the year.

All students learning Japanese had the opportunity to try out their new language skills with our Japanese Assistant, Yumi sensei. Students have keenly participated in small group interactive activities with Yumi sensei to develop their skills and to build confidence to speak in Japanese. A big thank you to Yumi sensei for her commitment to providing students with positive language learning experiences. We look forward to seeing you again in 2026.
On the whole school Wellbeing Afternoon towards the end of Term 3, staff and students enjoyed origami, traditional Japanese music and mindfulness games in the Japanese classroom. Year 7 student, Macey, demonstrated patience and perseverance as she competed for number 1 position in the Barrel of Monkeys game. Staff watched on in awe as she surpassed the previous record.

Year 12 Japanese Beginners
Our 2025/2026 cohort commenced their HSC course this term. We wish all of these students well in their studies as they embark on their final year of school at FGHS.

Year 7 Language
For most Year 7 students, learning about Japan’s language and culture was their first experience with learning a language other than English. All students, whether they loved, liked or disliked learning Japanese, developed their understanding of a culture different to their own and developed skills which can be applied to the study of other languages and other subjects in the future.

Technology GO!!
Congratulations to the many students who are consistently arriving to lessons with charged devices, ready for learning. Students are awarded a PBL point for Responsibility each time they arrive at a lesson with a charged device, prepared to learn. It is important that devices are charged each evening, so students have access to their Google Classroom and other language learning sites. If students are absent from a lesson, they are able to access the learning activities on their Google Classroom.
