‘The High Potential and Gifted Education Policy promotes engagement and challenge for every student, regardless of background, in every school across intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains.’

HPGE Class Opportunity for Incoming Year 7 Students – 2026

Francis Greenway High School is excited to announce that in 2026, we will be offering incoming Year 7 students the opportunity to be part of a dedicated High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) class.

There will be two HPGE classes, designed for students who demonstrate potential in any of the four HPGE domains:

  • Creative
  • Intellectual
  • Physical
  • Social-Emotional

These classes will provide a supportive and challenging learning environment, tailored to help students grow and excel in their area(s) of strength.

Year 6 students across our GLC have had the opportunity to participate in various transition opportunities in each specific domain.

Intellectual HPGE Day – 20 October

Twenty-two enthusiastic students joined us for a day of lessons. They got to explore chemical reactions in Science with Mr Latta, and complete some collaborative creative writing with Ms Love in English. Students impressed us with their curiosity and teamwork, and Japanese with Waller Sensei was definitely a hit!

Physical HPGE Day – 3 November

Twenty-three students pushed themselves to new limits in a day of sprint training with coach Dennis, fitness testing and multisport games with Ms Baker and Ms Daly. They were joined by our current FGHS students from the HPGE Physical program, who provided great encouragement and leadership throughout the day.

Creative HPGE Day

Eleven students explored their artistic talents through three hands-on workshops: drawing, collage and spray painting. The creativity and imagination on display were truly inspiring! Thank you to Ms Parker, Ms Bornholt and Ms Moody for running these workshops!

Art Club

Art Club has been buzzing with creativity this term! Students from all year groups have been coming together to explore new materials, experiment with different art techniques, and work on their own projects in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Art Club is the perfect place for students to learn new skills, collaborate with others, or simply take a break and unwind through art. From painting and drawing, there’s something for everyone!

New members are always welcome — just bring your imagination and come along to E7 at first break on Wednesdays.

Drama Ensemble

The Drama Ensemble is in full swing this term! Made up of students from Years 7 to 12, the group meets every Tuesday to explore the magic of performance. Students are learning the fundamentals of improvisation, collaborating to create engaging playbuilt pieces, and building confidence on stage.

There are exciting opportunities for members to perform both within the school and at external events, making this a fantastic way to develop skills, creativity, and a love for drama.

Holiday Carols

Get into the festive spirit! Every day during second break in A3, the Music faculty is hosting Holiday Carols sessions.

Come along, learn some classic tunes, and join in the fun as we get ready for the holiday season! Everyone is welcome — bring your friends and your singing voices!

Dance Team!

Our school’s Dance Club is in full swing! Meeting every Wednesday at first break in A1, this group brings together students who love to move, create, and perform.

Members work collaboratively to choreograph original dances, combining the skills and ideas of everyone in the group. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to learn new techniques, build confidence, and enjoy the social side of making dance.

Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just looking for a fun way to get moving, Dance Club is the place to be. Come along, get involved, and let your creativity shine!

Bandwidth Band Competition Finals!

We’re thrilled to announce that after a rigorous audition process, one of our amazing bands — Buoyant Buddies — has made it through to the final round of the Bandwidth Competition!

This exciting event gives our talented students the chance to perform live on stage, supported by a professional sound and lighting crew, in front of a vibrant audience on Friday, 14th November.

Congratulations to Buoyant Buddies on this fantastic achievement.

Sewing Club

The TAS faculty are thrilled to see the Sewing Club in full swing this term! Each Wednesday at lunchtime, students gather to develop their sewing skills, from learning the basics of hand stitching to working on their own creative projects.

It’s been wonderful to see students experimenting with fabrics, patterns, and design ideas — building confidence, patience, and a valuable life skill along the way.

The club continues to grow each week, and we can’t wait to see the amazing creations our talented students produce next!

HPGE Physical Domain Program a Running Success

Francis Greenway High School’s new HPGE program focused on the Physical Domain has been a screaming success. This initiative designed to identify and support students who demonstrate exceptional physical potential has benefited all student participants.

Students selected for the program have participated in a comprehensive weekly schedule that included:

  1. Sprint & Agility Sessions
  2. Strength & Conditioning
  3. Recovery Activities

This program aligns with HPGE goals by promoting physical excellence, resilience, and personal growth.

Celebrating Culture: Pasifika Performance Group

Our Pasifika Performance Group has been busy learning and celebrating the rich traditions of the Pacific Islands through dance, song, and music. Under the guidance of Phoenix, students have spent the year developing their performance skills and deepening their understanding of Pasifika culture and community.

Their hard work will culminate in a special performance at the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony, where they will showcase the songs, dances, and rhythms they’ve mastered throughout the year. This performance is not only a celebration of their talent but also a proud expression of cultural identity and unity within our school community.

Celebrating Culture Through Language: Learning Wanarruwa

Students at Francis Greenway High School are taking part in a special cultural learning experience—studying the Wanarruwa language, the traditional language of our local area. Guided by a Wanarruwa community member and teacher, students from across year groups come together each week to learn through hands-on and interactive activities.

This program not only builds language skills but also deepens students’ understanding of Aboriginal culture, identity, and connection to Country. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our school community to celebrate and preserve the living traditions of the Wanarruwa people.
