2026 School Theme - Coherence
Dear Westbreen PS Families,
Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a fantastic long weekend! I enjoyed playing in a Beach Volleyball tournament in Geelong. It was great to spend time with friends doing lots of exercise. I hope you all had a chance to get out and about and enjoy some time in the sunshine!
School Disco this Friday - Ticket sales close on Wednesday!
Our annual school disco is this Friday!
There will be two separate discos on the same day held in our Specialist Building:
- Foundations to Grade 2: 4:30pm – 5:30pm
- Grade 3 to Grade 6: 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Tickets will cost $12.50 each and must be purchased in advance to attend via Xuno! Tickets are available now! Paper tickets will then be distributed to families prior to the event. Check out the Parents and Friends Committee page for more details.
Congratulations Alexa!
Over the weekend, Alexa fought in the Australian Taekwondo Victoria: Black Belt state selections. She won gold in her category and she is the Victorian State Champion in Black Belt 8-9yr old 25-28kg division. What an outstanding achievement! Good luck to Alexa who will be going to the National Championships in Canberra in October to represent Victoria.
Leaving school grounds before school
A reminder that once students arrive at school they are not permitted to leave school without permission from their parents or guardians. We have had some instances where students have gone outside the grounds before school to go to the shops across the road, which poses a significant safety risk. If you can reinforce this expectation at home that students are not allowed to leave the school grounds for any reason, that would be greatly appreciated.
AFL Essendon FC visit
Last week, our Year 2's were treated to a visit from the AFL Association, including players from Essendon Football Club - Jaxon Prior, Jordan Ridley and Zachary Reid. Students practised some AFL skills like kicking, tagging and hand passes and then got to ask the players about their football careers. The players also gave their autographs and a QR code for free tickets to games (family 4 pass) and other offers through the Essendon Bombers Clubhouse website, available to all Westbreen families.
Planning Week Next Week (Week 9)
Each term we hold 'Planning Week'. Teachers from the same year level team get together for a day to plan for the following term. They look at the learning needs of the students in their class and then use the Victorian Curriculum to plan units of work in English, Mathematics and Integrated studies, as well as Respectful Relationships lessons. They also organise special events excursions and incursions. We enable this to occur by changing our regular timetable so that all of the students' specialist lessons (PE, Italian, Science, Art and Music) are held on one day.
A reminder from Victoria Police about e-scooters and e-bikes.
Yours in education,
Megan Ganter
