World Oceans Day 2025, observed annually on June 8, will be held under the theme “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us.” This year’s focus emphasizes the critical need to preserve the health and vitality of our oceans, with particular attention on addressing the escalating issue of plastic pollution.
A central initiative supporting this effort is the “Sea the Change Cleanup Challenge,” taking place from June 6 to July 6, 2025. This month-long campaign seeks to engage individuals, communities, and organizations in coordinated cleanup activities aimed at reducing plastic waste in marine and coastal environments.
In addition, the “Oceans of Plastic 2025” campaign—a comprehensive, year-long initiative—will underscore the environmental consequences of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems. The campaign will promote sustainable practices, support innovation in waste reduction, and foster collaboration across sectors to drive systemic change.
Together, these initiatives aim to inspire collective action, deepen public awareness, and reinforce our shared responsibility to safeguard the ocean—our planet’s most vital life-support system.
