Nude Food Day

On Thursday 26 October, the College will run a “Nude Food Day”. On this day, the canteen will be closed for recess and lunch.

Nude Food is food without excess packaging; the more natural and less processed the better. Think fruit, vegetables, home-made muesli bars or slices, sandwiches etc.

On Nude Food Day, students and staff are encouraged to bring their own food in reusable containers or buy food from a stall run by SAGERS.  Cash and card will be accepted.

If bringing your own food from home, please try to reduce any plastic wrapping, instead placing items in reusable containers.

If opting to purchase food from the stall, please bring a reusable container and cutlery.

On Nude Food Day, the following food will be available for purchase:

Recess - Pretzels, cake and dim sims ($1 each) or snack bars in compostable plastic ($3 each)

Lunch - Italian bake, Risotto, Chinese Noodles or Vegetarian Bake ($5 each)

Cardboard containers and bamboo forks will be available for $1 and 50 cents, respectively, if you are unable to bring a container and cutlery from home.

Nude Food tips:

  1. Buy a lunchbox - There are many choices available, but most converts to nude food say that multi-compartment lunchboxes are the go. By creating sections, you don’t need to wrap anything up – you just fill each compartment, slam on the lid and everything stays in place – even liquid things like dips.
  2. Get busy in the kitchen - This is the one that everybody hates, but with a bit of weekend planning the whole week will be easier. Perhaps serve up leftovers from dinner or involve the kids in chopping up carrots and teach them how to make some 'nude' meals. Aim to have a week's worth of sliced vegetables, cut fruit and sandwiches, muffins (or whatever else takes your fancy) that you can just pull straight out of the fridge and throw in a lunchbox in the morning.
  3. Feed good about it - Firstly, you’re doing something to save the planet so you can mention it casually at dinner parties and reap the reward of feeling like a good parent. But, much more importantly, you can enjoy the comfort of knowing what your child is really eating. None of us really look closely enough at the colourings and preservatives in the processed treats we use. But if you’re the one making tasty bliss balls or cookies you know exactly how natural they are.

Japanese cooking session

On Monday 16 October, the Year 11 Food Studies students and Year 9 Japanese classes came together for a Japanese cooking session.

The session provided the Year 9s with an opportunity to put their Japanese to the test, reading from recipes written in Japanese, as well as engage with future leaders of the College.

The Year 11s were there to provide support to the younger students, working off recipes written in English.

The groups showed great teamwork working together to produce their dishes.
