From the Principal

dSt Justin’s Primary School acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia's First People and Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which our school stands.
We pay our respects to the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, and their elders past and present, and emerging as we continue to proudly live and learn on their land.
St Justin's Primary School - Celebrating over 40 years of Catholic Education
Dear Families and Friends,
Thanks to all for another wonderful week at St Justin's. It's been a busy week, with much achieved. Thanks to all who were able to attend A Morning with Mum - it was great to have so many here. And a special thanks to all those who helped out with the many activities - much appreciated. We wish everyone a great day on Sunday - Happy Mother's Day.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful
Mothers, Grandmothers and special women.
Mother’s Day Poem - A Mother’s Love
Mothers, Grandmas and Aunties, and special women, we think of this day.
As we gather here together, A MOTHER’S LOVE is what we honour today.
A MOTHER’S LOVE is gentle, a soft and tender touch.
Always there when needed, she loves us oh so much.
A MOTHER’S LOVE is kind, full of thought and care.
No matter what has happened, her love is ready to share.
A MOTHER’S LOVE is warm, it wraps us like a hug.
It brightens up our days, and keeps us safe and snug.
A MOTHER’S LOVE is endless, it’s shared with all she knows.
With every single person, and everywhere she goes.
So, on this day we pause our minds, and focus our hearts to say.
Thank you to all the special women, for their MOTHER’S LOVE each day.
First Eucharist Commitment Mass
Last weekend our Year 4 students attended one of the Parish Masses in preparation for their First Eucharist, which will be celebrated in June.
The Commitment Mass asks students and families to acknowledge the commitment they will be making as they commence their preparation for this very special Sacrament.
Can we please keep these Year 4 students in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

Prep 2027
Over the last few weeks, we have had the privilege of interviewing our Prep families for 2027. During the interview we ask why they have chosen St Justin's as their preferred school. Whilst there is a variety of reasons, many will comment on the fact that it has a great sense of community. I then ask as to how they see themselves contributing to this community, given that community is not something "over there" it is something we become part of and that community can only exist if we all contribute. Being part of the St Justin's community not only helps us all, but it is great role modelling for our children - to be part of a community we need to be proactive. Thanks to all those who are proactive in our community and do so much to create community.
Mother's Day Stall
On Thursday the Parents and Friends held the Mother’s Day stall so that children could find a little token of appreciation to share with their mothers/carers on Sunday. We would like to thank our event organisers Michalena, Talar, Monita & Sandra for putting this on for the children and our parent helpers and years 5/6 students who supported this event.
As a school we couldn’t hold this kind of event without your support!!
A Morning with Mum
Today we had a beautiful celebration of all Mums and Mother figures and we would like to thank Melinda C and Nancy N for organising and leading this event. A big thank you also to our wonderful parent helpers, Kerry S for the beautiful cookies and a special shout out to Brad N and Paul T for keeping everyone warm with coffee this morning. Many hands helped make our Mother’s Day celebrations so special, and we truly appreciate all the support from our school community.
The morning was then followed by a short prayer service to celebrate this very special occasion - thanks to Mrs Snell and the classroom teahers for leading our morning prayer.
Thank you
A big thank you to Mickey and Jasmine from Watermelon Bushy Park for their generous donation of fresh fruit for our Mother’s Day morning. We truly appreciate your generosity!

Staying safe
What a wild Thursday morning with storms and hail that looked more like snow! Please take extra care travelling to and from school in conditions like this. If this causes you to run late, please take your time, we would much rather you arrive safely and not rush, your safety is our priority. Thank you for your understanding and stay safe.
Kind Love Care
Thanks to Tony for displaying our recent piece of art work. The mosaic art work is a result of a collaborative project involving students from all year levels in 2025. The collaborative project was completed during kitchen garden sessions last year, with a focus on wellbeing. Thanks to Mrs Wegmann and Mrs Loadman for organising this activitiy.
St Justin's Soccer Star - Sienna B
Congratulations to Sienna B in Year 6 on her outstanding soccer achievements.
Sienna is incredibly passionate about soccer and has shown great dedication to developing her skills. Since joining Monash Villarreal Soccer Club late last year, she has been recognised for both her commitment and ability. Last month, Sienna was selected as one of only two girls in her age group to attend academy training in Spain this October, an incredible achievement.
Sienna has also been selected to represent the Under 14s in the Australian International Football team at the Thailand Cup in Thailand in January 2027.
We also wish Sienna the very best for the State Trials next month as she strives to earn a place in the Victorian Girls Soccer Team.
We are incredibly proud of your achievements, Sienna, and look forward to following your exciting soccer journey!

P&F Dad's Night
We had a great Dads Night on Friday night at the South Oakleigh Bowling Club with over 40 dads attending for a bowl, steak, laugh and sharing of stories. Hopefully this will help unite our community even further and provide support for others. We look forward to the next one to be held next term. Thanks to the P&F and the volunteers at the South Oakleigh Bowling Club - the steaks were magnificent.

Care Packs for Our ADF Heroes
Thank you to the families of St Justin’s for your generous donation's.
These care packages will be sent to Australian Defence Force ADF personnel serving abroad. These packages are a simple but powerful way to provide comfort, encouragement and a reminder that a community back home is thinking of them.
Thank you for supporting this initiative and for helping our students put gratitude into action. Together, we can send more than just a parcel, we can send appreciation, encouragement and care to those serving far from home.
Lest we forget.
The Bloody Long Walk
As you would be aware, Miranda Kirk is one of our volunteers at St Justin’s. She comes every Thursday, which is a highlight of her week.
As mentioned previously, Miranda has Mitochondrial disease - a group of chronic, genetic disorders occurring when mitochondria fail to produce enough energy for cell function, often affecting high-energy organs like the brain, heart, and muscles.
Each year a fundraiser is conducted called “The Bloody Long Walk”, to help raise funds for a cure for Mitochondrial disease. This year
Mrs Loadman and her friends will be walking 35 km on Sunday May 17th. If you would to donate, please follow the link.

Fair on the Hill

Our next meeting will be held next Wednesday 13th May commenicing at 7:00pm in the Staff Room - everyone welcome.
Parking
A reminder that no car should enter the school grounds unless:
- accessing Before and After School Care.
- permission has been granted by the principal.
- picking up or dropping of students during class time.
- attending an event after school hours.
Please note:
- Parishioners will be arriving in the morning to attend Mass - they may park in the school grounds
- if it is raining, students should use a jacket or umbrella - using the school grounds to drop off and pick up can make things even more dangerous.
- the speed limit inside the school grounds is 5km/h - which is very slow.
- parking is prohibited at the bus stop, outside the parish house
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated by all members of our community.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support.
All the best,
Pat
