The Second Sunday in Advent - PEACE -8th Dec
This Sunday marks the Second Sunday of Advent, a time when we continue to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ at Christmas. Advent, which means “coming” or “arrival,” is a season of hope, reflection, and anticipation as we journey together towards the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
The theme for the Second Sunday of Advent is peace, reminding us of God’s promise of harmony and restoration in our lives and the world. The second candle on the Advent wreath, often called the Candle of Peace, is lit as a symbol of our longing for the peace Christ brings.
In the Gospel reading for this Sunday, we hear the voice of John the Baptist calling us to prepare the way for the Lord. His message inspires us to reflect on how we can make room for Christ in our hearts and live in peace with one another.
As we gather with our families and communities this Sunday, let us take a moment to pray for peace in our homes, our nation, and our world. May we also commit ourselves to acts of kindness and reconciliation, becoming instruments of peace in the lives of those around us.
May the light of the Advent candles guide us through this holy season, filling our hearts with hope, peace, and joy.
PRAYER - Advent
Loving God. As we light the second candle of Advent, we are reminded of Your promise of peace. In a world often filled with turmoil, help us to open our hearts to the peace that only You can bring.
Prepare us, Lord, to welcome Your Son, Jesus Christ, into our lives and homes. May His light shine within us, guiding our words and actions so that we may become instruments of Your peace.
Teach us to live in harmony with one another, to forgive as we are forgiven, and to seek reconciliation in all we do. Let Your peace reign in our hearts, in our communities, and in our world.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
