SWPBS Update

Sports Equipment Borrowing

As part of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) approach, we have introduced a new Sports Equipment Borrowing System. This provides students with more opportunities to be active, try new sports and enjoy positive play during break times.

The system was developed in response to student feedback, with many students sharing they wanted access to a wider range of sporting equipment at school. We've now introduced new equipment for all students, with separate options available for Prep - Year 2 and Years 3 - 6.

Implementing the New System

To support the successful implementation of the system, students were explicitly taught the expectations for borrowing, using and returning sporting equipment. Teachers discussed and modelled how students can demonstrate our school values while using the equipment, including playing safely, respecting others and taking responsibility for returning equipment after use.

Students are encouraged to borrow equipment, try new activities and play with others. They are also reminded to return equipment after use, even if they were not the person who originally borrowed it.

Students who demonstrate our school values while using and returning equipment can also be recognised with High Five Cards.

Positive Impact

Since introducing the new system, we have seen a positive impact across the school. Students are:

  • Enjoying a wider range of sporting activities
  • Trying equipment and games they may not have experienced before (the amount of new 'skippers' in the yard is incredibly impressive!)
  • Making new friends and playing with different students
  • Building positive relationships with both staff and peers
  • Demonstrating responsibility by looking after and returning equipment

A reminder for families: To support the success of this system and ensure all students can enjoy a safe and positive break time, we ask that students do not bring sporting equipment from home.

We are proud of the way our students have embraced the new system and look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for positive, active and inclusive play at Albanvale Primary School.
