Year 5/6 Update

Term 3 in 5/6!

What a fantastic Term 3 we have had in 5/6! Students have worked incredibly hard in the classroom while also making the most of a busy term filled with exciting opportunities and events, including Hoop Time, District Athletics, incursions and our Book Week Parade. It has been wonderful to see our students embracing these experiences, demonstrating our school values and making the most of all that Term 3 has had to offer.

Maths

To kick off the term, students worked on an exciting project to plan their own trip around Australia, aiming to visit as many iconic landmarks as possible. Throughout the unit, they developed their skills in mapping, time and duration, measurement, estimation and budgeting. Students enjoyed researching the many destinations Australia has to offer and carefully planning their itineraries, making decisions about where to go, how to get there and how to manage their budget.

English

A highlight for our 5/6 students this term has been our Business and Economics unit. Each class read the narrative The Lemonade War, using the story to explore the different elements involved in starting and running a business. Students developed their persuasive writing skills as they prepared and presented debates about whether it is better to shop locally or at large supermarket chains. To finish the unit, students put their learning into action by creating a business proposal for their own small business. We saw a fantastic range of ideas, from food and handmade products to lessons and other services. Students were highly engaged throughout the process and created impressive presentations to pitch their ideas to the class.

Year 6 incursion

To wrap up our Business and Economics unit, our Year 6 students put their learning to the test during a Smoothie Bar incursion. Working in teams, students developed a business plan for their very own smoothie bar, considering everything from their brand name, logo and slogan to their store layout and menu. They then had the opportunity to create a signature smoothie recipe, experimenting with different ingredients and taste testing their creations before deciding whether they were ready for the menu. Our Year 6 students demonstrated fantastic teamwork, creativity and resilience throughout the day, and we were extremely proud of the way they worked together to bring their businesses to life.
