RSS Awards 2023: Achieving great things!
Naranga School is a finalist in this year's awards. We applied for the Student Led Secondary category. We will be up against two other schools in this category.
The Resource Smart School Awards are the Victoria’s largest sustainability celebration for primary and secondary school students, teachers and school volunteers taking remarkable sustainability action. The Resource Smart School Awards is a positive, future focused event which celebrates sustainability leadership in Victorian primary and secondary schools. For 2023, the Awards theme is ‘Achieving great things’ and celebrates sustainability actions taking place now in ResourceSmart Schools across Victoria. Finalist schools will attend an awards ceremony at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 15 June 2023.
About Resource Smart Schools
Resource Smart Schools is an award-winning free program from the Victorian Government that supports schools to reduce energy and water use, cut waste, save on bills, incorporate sustainability into the curriculum and inspire the next generation of sustainability leaders. The Resource Smart Schools Program supports schools to take action on climate change by minimising waste, improving energy and water efficiency, and promoting biodiversity to benefit their school and community. Since 2008, over 1,400 Victorian schools have participated, saving 118,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases and $41 million. This is $26 million in energy savings, $9.5 million through waste reduction and recycling, and $5.5 million in water savings. Resource Smart Schools is helping Victoria to transition to a zero-net carbon, circular economy by 2050. Resource Smart Schools supports Victoria’s Climate Change Strategy, by empowering school communities to reduce their emissions.About Sustainability Victoria Sustainability Victoria is transitioning Victoria to a circular, climate-resilient economy. Established under the Sustainability Victoria Act 2005, S V is a statutory authority with a board appointed by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change.
