Orientation Day

by Meera Datt

Since becoming a Junior Ambassador at the beginning of November, I have thoroughly enjoyed attending weekly training sessions. These sessions have given me the opportunity to get to know students from other houses and gain knowledge about MGC both through practice-tours and through the different roles JA’s play on Orientation Day.

On Orientation Day, my role was Class Helper, which meant that I was in the classroom for the whole day with my allocated class of prospective year 7 students. In this role, I had the opportunity to get to the know some of the 2021 year 7’s, answer their questions, and assist with getting-to-know-you/ice-breaker activities, which was a lot of fun. Some of the activities brought back great memories from when I came to Orientation Day as a prospective year 7 last year!

Some of the other roles for JA’s on Orientation Day were tour-guides, photographers, and runners of activities/sessions. Everyone did a fabulous job in their roles!

Towards the end of the day, every JA was given a small group of 2021 year 7 Buddies. In these groups, we first answered any questions the 2021 year 7’s had, and then we participated in a creation challenge, when each group was given a subject, and together we had to make a creation that represented that subject. My group was given maths, and we decided to create a maths cube, which had a different maths operation on each side. This was a cool activity which helped me get to break the ice and get to know my 2021 year 7 buddies.

Being a JA has provided me with so many fantastic experiences and opportunities which I am very grateful to have had!
