This will be the last newsletter for the year. We recognized student achievements at our Presentation  assemblies this week. Our online broadcasts were well attended by parents. This different organization was required due to COVID restrictions.  Congratulations to all those students who receive an award. I know both parents and teachers are very proud of our students’ achievements, especially this year. Our students will be enjoying end of year activities over the next two weeks including our Year 6 Farewell and K-6 picnic days.

I wish all our Year 6 students the very best in their first year of high school next year. You have made a solid foundation for your future learning here at Girraween Public School.

Student reports will be sent home with students on Wednesday, 9 December. Classes for 2021 will be organized on the first day of term next year.

Planning for 2021 is well under way. Our school plan will focus on ensuring students ‘connect, succeed, thrive and learn. We will be using evidence based quality teaching and learning in a culture of high expectations and community engagement. A copy of our 2021-24 School Plan will be available on our school website along with the Annual School Report for 2020. I encourage all parents to review these documents and provide any feedback at our P&C meetings early next year.

Our P&C have concluded a very different year with meetings via Zoom.  Support for the school has continued thanks to the Uniform Shop and feedback on school organization throughout the year. Our school library has had financial donations to fund book purchases and a new filing system to store the ever increasing resources. Very much appreciated.

Our annual Talent Quest will be held on Friday. There is a great variety of performances from our students. Congratulations to all our performers and have fun!.

Finally I would like to thank all members of our school community for the outstanding assistance and cooperation our school enjoyed from parents and the community in this very difficult year. Our students have achieved equal to previous years despite significant interruption to learning during 2020.

While restrictions are being reduced we will still require that parents not gather on the school grounds. Morning and afternoon operations will continue as they are at present in 2021. We will confirm arrangements for parents attending school events early in the new year.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year everyone! I look forward to seeing all those who are returning refreshed and ready for the 2021 school year after the summer holiday.

Best wishes,

G. Walker
