Prep Assessments
During Term 1 each student came to school on a Wednesday to complete their Prep Assessment. These assessments will be used by your child’s teacher to see what they already know and what direction we will take our teaching and learning program. We are so proud of all the students for showing us their best learning during these assessments!
Harmony Day
Harmony Week is the time to acknowledge and celebrate cultural diversity in Australia. This is how Achilles Community showed their support for cultural diversity, respect and inclusiveness to this day!
For our future Achilles birthdays, if you would like us to help celebrate your child’s special day at school please let us know. If you would like to bring any gifts to hand out, we suggest something small such as bubbles, pens, rubbers, textas, or balloons. Unfortunately we can not hand out food items due to allergies and other dietary requirements. We look forward to celebrating the many birthdays to come!
In Reading we have continued to explore and engage in a range of texts. We have learnt many nursery rhymes whilst practicing our oral language skills. The Prep students have particularly enjoyed segmenting (breaking up) words into smaller sounds orally and putting them back together. Here are some pictures of the great work the Prep students have completed during Reading sessions.
In Writing, we have been working on developing our fine motor skills through using playdough, beads and tracing activities. Students have also been practicing writing their names by creating name mosaics, name rockets, and repetition tracing activities. On Mondays, the Prep students have been writing a recount about their weekend. Students are encouraged to draw a detailed picture and have a go at writing about their picture. Below are pictures of our amazing writing.
In Maths we have been learning to count and make numbers to 10. We have been using lots of different materials to make numbers. Our favourites have been teddies, unifix cubes, counters, and sticks. We have also learnt how to represent numbers in different ways; including on a tens frame and on our fingers. Check out the photos below to see our learning in action!
We have been learning all about our bodies and ways that we can stay healthy. We have learnt the names of our body parts and also the organs of the body. The students have enjoyed exploring the different organs and how they function. We have been looking at rainbow fruit and vegetables, how eating healthy helps our body work. The students discovered the importance of exercise and sleep on their bodies and how they help them learn.
In the past few weeks, we have been learning about how to be kind to each other. Students have explored different Zones of Regulations and what strategies they use when they are in the Red, Yellow, Blue or Green Zones.
