The Inclusive Association of Catholic Colleges held their annual athletics carnival at McGillivray oval last week. The occasion is a highlight each year as all students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of field and track events and meet up with their friends from other Colleges. Ruby Elliot won a gold medal in the 100 metres and Maddie Brown and Chloe Williams performed brilliantly on the track and long jump events. An extraordinary day, much enjoyed by all.
The ACC Divisional Athletics Carnivals last week included the first ever disability classified events. This is part of the new No Limits program for students with disabilities where students with disabilities are formally classified with Athletics WA and Swimming WA, so that they can compete at ACC carnivals in their own classification alongside their peers.
Joseph Salt represented John XXIII College at this carnival. Joseph competed in the 100m, 400m, shot put and long jump. Joseph achieved his personal bests in the long jump and shot put performing superbly on the day.
In addition, Joseph is representing Western Australia in the Down Syndrome Swimming Australian National Short Course Championships in Geelong from 23-24 September. He will be competing in the 50m freestyle and backstroke, 50m and 100m breaststroke, 25m butterfly and the individual medley.
Joseph is to be congratulated for his dedication and commitment to sport. He a is talented sportsman and an asset to his teams.
