Year 9

Term Three has been a very busy term for Year 9 students.  Most recently the organisation of RU OK? Day was a great success, with the efforts of students educating and making the College community aware of this important day and especially mental wellness.

Last Thursday a group of Year 9 students arrived early to put Posters up around the College to advertise RU OK? Day. These were made in our TRJ classes. These ranged from a simple question RU OK? To the four steps for assisting someone. Students are to be congratulated on the efforts they put into these posters and for their help to get these up around the school. At recess Year 9s students carried out Random Acts of Kindness where they were sent in different directions throughout the College including the Administration block, Staff room, Medical centre etc. and areas where staff and students hang out to give them a ‘goodie’ and an RU OK? card. Students were to pass these on and promote the importance of the day. Thank you parents for your support with providing these provisions. Feedback from the students was that they were surprised at how appreciative and surprised the older students were in the efforts of the Year 9s to educate and their generosity of something to eat at recess. Thank you to all the students for making the Year 9s feel proud of what they were doing. At lunchtime, many year 9s gathered on the chapel lawn to eat their lunch, enjoy some music provided by Ashton Wee and others.  Music that would put us in the mood to support one another. Some sat and enjoyed the music and company of their peers and some enjoyed showing their dance moves to all around. Very courageous!

A huge thank you must go to all the Year 9s, The Rite Journey (TRJ) teachers: Ms Boyle, Ms Murphy, Ms McLoughlin, Mr Henderson, Mr Oorloof, Deacon Peters, Mr Haines and myself Ms Wooltorton and Ms Catina our College Psychologist/ Counsellor who educated us and helped us with preparing for this day. Thank you everyone for your support and for making the day a success in educating, awareness and in building a community.

I am so proud of the Year 9s and all they contributed to this successful day.

Thank you.
