Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Term Three Open Night was once again an opportunity for families to come along and view some of the many and varied learning opportunities children have at John XXIII College. From Kindy to Year 6 children ‘played host’ to their parents as they proudly walked them around their classroom and showed them the fruits of their labour! It is always wonderful when we have opportunities to come together as a whole community. Thank you children for all your hard work, thank you staff for opening your classroom and providing a window into the learning that is going on in your classrooms and thank you parents, for affirming and supporting your child in this way.

Happy holidays and take care everyone!

Kind Regards

Antoinette De Pinto

Head of Primary

STAFF UPDATE

Ms Allen will be undergoing a knee replacement during the school holidays and will then require time for rehabilitation.

From the beginning of term 4, Mrs Young will work alongside Miss Joyce in Year 3G for the remainder of the year.

We wish Ms Allen a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her walking around the Primary with ease in 2018. Please keep Ms Allen in your prayers.

YEAR 5 SCI-TECH EXCURSION

The last few weeks have been incredibly busy for the Year 5 students, and to further their scientific understanding and enquiry skills a visit to Sci-Tech was organised. The students viewed an amazing Planetarium show and explored many constellations and also learnt about the role satellites play in our everyday lives. They visited the Rio Tinto Innovation Lab and were able to see through their skin to the veins in their arms, design earthquake proof buildings (or at least try to) and control robots. The excursion concluded with the 'Things That Glow' science show which included explosive fire balls, amazing chemical reactions and mesmerizing UV light displays. The time spent at Sci-Tech was the perfect ending to the Year 5 intriguing earth and space science unit.

YEAR 4 HOLY COMMUNION RETREAT

On Wednesday, our Year Four students participated in a Holy Communion Retreat. The day was filled with various activities, team building tasks, exciting games and a beautiful reflection. It was wonderful to see the children put their sacramental knowledge and preparation into practice when answering the quiz questions. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and enthusiastically participated in all aspects of the day. Well done Year Fours!

YEAR 1’s FREMANTLE LITERATURE CENTRE

This term in Year One the children have been learning all about writing narratives. On Wednesday morning they visited The Literature Centre in Fremantle. The children spent time finding out more about two amazing picture books written by Australian authors and also got to view the incredible draft illustrations and sketches which were then used in the books. Our future authors and illustrators thoroughly enjoyed this excursion.

Our Pre Primary children loved making ‘origiri’ (rice balls) with Sensai Rowson this week.

SAFETY COMES FIRST

It would be greatly appreciated if children did not ride their scooters around the Primary School before or after-school. Thank you!
